Im about to get a WE knife. Im not generally a Chinese knife enthusiast. No telling how good the heat treat is regardless of the fit and finish but they are using really good materials and they are becoming a big name in the industry. Not seeing a lot about WE in the forums...

Meh..China. They still just pump out knives, they just decide to put their own name on better quality ones. They are not too bad really, actually pretty ok, but I just don't think they are worth the money at all, nor do I ever trust China to have their "own" brand.

Its really hard to say that, its just..I don't see a difference between their special we knives and whatever else companies they make for.

I like to support US made knife companies but I'm seeing a lot of really compelling things coming from WE and a few other brands. I don't think geography should have anything to do with The quality of a knife. It comes down to the manufacturer, and WE has proven to me at least that they are a top notch company.

We we.

I have a Massdrop Ferrum Forge Gent made by We, and it is amazing. I have a Kizer as well. Buying Chinese knives doesn't bother me.

However, $300+ is ridiculous IMO when I can get something as good or better made here in the U.S.

In the sub $250 range, I think they are worth it.

300 dollar We integral Drakon or 425 dollar Benchmade anthem. I have both and can easily answer that question when it comes to which is better made.

Point is, almost every WE knife is well worth the money. Fit and finish outstrips a lot of American companies. So I never understand the whole "overpriced" issue when ZT has similar or higher prices, Benchmade is around the same 150 to 300 range, but with worse materials and fit and finish, and Spyderco can easily be overpriced when compared side by side.

Most people that dislike We have yet to try one. Grab a Civivi if you cant grab a We, itll show you how good a knife can be for 40 bucks.

As to the OP, there is a ton of love for WE on the forum. It actually just got its own subforum a few months back.

Hope I addressed enough of the points.

You should probably post less and read more.

As far as WE Knives go, they're great. They're lauded all over YouTube via very well received and well regarded reviewers.

If you're interested in a model, by all means, indulge. The days of "American Made" are pretty close to over. Were in the midst of a global economy and that's the direction it will be headed from now on.

I dont think I will have any issues with fit and finish as I have seen very good work done from China in the guitar realm. My only concern is even though they are using M390 steel, how good is their heat treat? A pretty knife is great and all but Im a sharpness snob if nothing else.

You assume much, I buy chinese made knives all the time, but I am not interested in chinese brands who try to be more than they are..a chinese mass market brand. Ill put such money to more worthy knives.

As for global trade, its beyond the scope to argue such a claim as you made.

I think in some instances, US made still holds sway. While I like the way that many of the Chinese and Asian companies in general make things, sometimes the materials they use negate the effort and quality of the craftsmanship. In the case of electric guitars, they used some pretty hinky materials to make a great looking product but not necessarily a great performing product...without some customization anyway. There is a certain amount of integrity that I think is lacking in Chinese business world with regards to mass production and the willingness to rip off designs and intellectual property in general. Still Im willing in this case to give it a try.

Ok, what Chinese brands do you buy that aren’t mass market production knives? Your response didn’t make much sense to me. Are you claiming you buy Chinese customs?

This is basically my stance, that's why I said it hurts to say what I said, I have no qualms with Chinese makers..its just they have a lot to overcome in my mind before we start supporting them. They consistently break international laws, the worlds most cesspool of fakes which get pumped into global markets without a care, and they use sleazy tactics empowered by the Chinese government to get into countries, overtake importers, undercut and dominate the businesses. Im simply not interested in any chinese brand that says they are legit. But I am not going to judge those who like WE knives..it is what it is.

Although I don’t own a WE made knife in m390 their heat treat on other steels has been spot on. Also other Chinese manufacturers with m390 seem to have no problem so they know how to heat treat these steels in China.

You misunderstand, I didn't say I buy non mass market knives, I buy crkts made in china, or used to, I buy gerbers and I buy mtechs and tacforce and other janky type knives...because I like the looks. While WE are mass marketish, their price point is beyond what I want to spend for a mass market from China. If it were cheaper I'd have no issues. My point is, I won't buy from a Chinese company who claims to be legit because I simply do not believe them right now, too much stigma in such a market. I know WE knives look great and are made well, but I am not to th epoint where I will put up such a price from factories in china when no telling what kinda stuff they do.

It blows my mind that there are still ‘enthusiasts’ that just can’t seem to accept the FACT that some excellent products are coming out of China. And not just higher-end brands like WE or Reate. Grab a Bestech, a Real Steel, Steel Will, Ruike, CIVIVI...all outstanding products (for the money or otherwise). I like to buy American as well, but I’ll not turn my nose up at quality work from any legit company.

Not trying to be overly pungent but you seriously need to consider the things you post. You're dangerously close to sounding a certain type of way.

This, all day every day.

In my experience, my foreign knives are superior examples.
