My father has had one of these classics for years now- they are terrific little air pistols. I just recently started looking around online for these and nobody has them! Does anyone know why the shortage of them?

Webley went out of business a year or 2 ago, a Turkish firm bought them out and have set up shop in Turkey, with all the Webley machinery. They aren't bringing the Tempest back, for the time being anyways. You have a collectors item in time. Parts can still be had at Beeman.

Interesting I do see some Webley airguns are indicated as made in Turkey - a sad day for a once great British gun company.

According to the Wikipedia on Webley and Scott

"Webley then only manufactured and distributed air guns until 22 December2005, when the company closed down. Webley's dependent company - Venom Custom Shop - ceased trading as well. It was then bought by Wolverhampton-based company Airgunsport.
In March 2007 Airgunsport Ltd announced it was to take advantage of the historical name by re-branding itself as Webley Ltd, with the Webley & Scott name retained for its shotgun production. "

This is the current website for Webley Ltd

on that page it said -

" The company's exciting future plans include the return of the highly acclaimed Raider 10 and the eagerly awaited reintroduction of Webley Air Pistols in 2007. "

The only air-pistol listed now (2008) was the Webley Typhoon.

I hope the Tempest is brought back, with all the quality of the original. This was a great little plinker. Thanks for the information.

you might try looking at gun shows there always seem to be a few around here. great guns and a real shame that webley died.

A neighbor of mine had a Webley Tempest back in the early eighties and we used to shoot it all the time. What a great airgun that was!! I was recently looking around to find one for myself and was pretty bummed when I learned they went out of business. One of coolest designs ever.

Webley pistols hold a decent value on the second-hand market. Will probably go up in time but not enough to retire on.

I have one I purchased about 10 years ago. I only put about 50 pellets through it and stowed it in the closet where its been ever since. I'm having a hard time finding a $$ value for it anywhere. Anyone know?

There is one that has reached a bid of $184 on gunbroker.com, that should give you an idea.

That was my first air gun nice untill some idiot freind shot me in the face with it then for some reason i dont like it any more. That and the rubber seal would always fall out after a few years use.

I have a Webley Hurricane, which is basically a Tempest with a longer barrel and better sights. I bought it as a kid back in 1978 or 1979 and I'm still shooting it! Respectable accuracy, not enough velocity to take out rats, but air pistols can't propel .177 pellets at 1000+ f.p.s. like a good air rifle can.
