It seemed to work really good on the first knife I sharpened on it.I'm still having a tough time figuring out the angles.I tried to no avail last night to sharpen an old junk knife on a mousepad with sandpaper but couldn't even get it to cut paper.Today it cuts paper like a hot knife through butter but still isn't shaving sharp.I just wish they had some kind of angle guide....

Something I do that you may or may not like: with the grinder positioned normally, you're working at roughly the 9:00 position, facing the wheel from the end. I turned my grinder around, so the wheels are turning away from me at the top, and I work on the top of the wheel. It's easier for me to judge the angle I'm holding this way. Just make sure you don't have any loose clothing that could catch the wheel.

Play with it some...you'll get it down. The learning curve is short, and these things work great!

keep it up and you'll be as good as i am :D. i'll be glad to give you some pointers. you dont need a guide either. it just takes a little time to get the hang of it. i could probably do it blindfolded but that would be quite dangerous. dont expect to do it right off. work on getting a burr worked up before worrying about buffing the edge. you have to get the correct angle down pat first.
