Hey guys,

Thought some of you might find this interesting, it came across my Kickstarter feed last night. I've never heard of the company/designer, but that's not saying much, until a month or so ago the only knife designer I could name off the top of my head was Ken Onion.

The design really pleases the minimalist in me, and it's supposed to be made of some good stuff: S35VN steel, with a titanium frame lock or G10 liner lock option.

Edit: Link and prices removed, my apologies. If you're interested, I'm sure you can find it.

That knife looks like a potato. I can’t see myself walking around with a potato in my pocket lol

That's how exciting and interesting this looks to me.

I am going to have to go with "meh" also.

And I can't help but wonder if a post like that is inside the rules here. I would have gotten the lay of the land/rules of the road here better before I attempted it.

I avoid Kickstarter like the plague. Keep in mind, you are NOT buying a product, they're giving you a gift in return for your donation or some such swill. That means any warranty work or defective products are dealt with largely at their discretion. This company may well be totally upstanding about it, but you really are at their mercy.

That aside, this just doesn't look like anything I can't find a dozen different places and have in hand within a couple days. Their little micro blade is more interesting, as there aren't many usable knives that size, but this one just seems...meh.

Supporting Kickstarter Projects is like being an Angel Investor without a proper contract.

I'm not a fan of any of the James Brand stuff, and this looks to be in the same vein. It looks well made for the money, but it's from a brand with almost no pedigree, with no details about who's making the knife, and with no warranty information. I'm also not a fan of the styling, though that is of course very subjective of a critique.

Worth noting as well is that it's not been handed out for review to any real knife enthusiast site, but rather to a bunch of clickbait garbage gear sites as a way to drive up publicity with uninformed knife purchasers.

Also, not to be overly picky, but the torx fasteners on that prototype look terrible, like what you find on Chinese Spyderco knockoffs. I hope they use better screws than what they're showing off here.

Why would it be against the rules? I have nothing to do with the kickstarter itself, nor the company making it.

As for Kickstarter in general, I've never had a problem and I've backed several projects.

Apparently ya'll's mommas never taught you "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."

And we know that how? Some new guy turns up promoting some knife brand with links and prices? Sounds like you are promoting the brand with a vested interest.

You may not have the correct membership level to do that.

My mother said, "Don't barge into a place like you own it."

And leave her out of any further comments, please.

Fair enough, to be honest that possibility never crossed my mind. And yes, I realize that's exactly what a shill would say. As Ripley would say, Believe It Or not.

We see it much more than you would think!

Anyway....congrats and enjoy your knife, give us a review and pics when you get it.

I'm sorry, but that knife is awful. It looks like almost no time went into that. And the other things they offer are indistinguishable from the 4,000 other people selling the same things.

*shrug* I like it. We all like different things, and it's a good thing otherwise there would only be one knife and no point in collecting them or in having a place like this to discuss them.

I ended up going with the titanium one too. I've decided I need to get over my aversion to frame locks due to their asymmetrical designs.

The guy behind it actually messaged me as a result of this thread, don't know if he's a lurking member or was just googling his creation, but either way I was impressed that he cared enough to reach out to people personally about his knife. When I get it I'll try to do a review on it.

Even if we all liked the same things, we could all like multiple things. So even if everyone agreed about this knife one way or another, we would still have other knives.

I just think it looks like a generic knife you would find at Lowe's, not a fan of the Nessmuk-y/Butter Knife blade shape, or the saber grind.

Good luck to him though.

Edit:
And we get it, you like it. You posted it so you must like it.

I just don't think you should expect us to all like it. And I don't think you need to defend your opinion either.

I dig it. I’m not buying it but only because I’m not a collector and I’ve become super picky about what I buy these days.

I can see someone using that to dress out an elk.
