Can anyone give me any information on this little knife. The tang reads West-Cut Boulder,Colo.Made in USA.The other side of the blade has K-3 stamped in it.As you can see it has the leather handle and birdshead pommel. What I find strange for a Western knife it has the single pin through the pommel like the Shrades not the two pins. Thanks for any help.Arnold

Western claimed that the West-Cut name was trademarked in the 1930's by Western States Cutlery. When H. N. Platts moved in 1911 from Bradford, Pennsylvania to Boulder, Colorado, he began his new cutlery as Western States Cutlery & Manufacturing Company making almost exclusively pocket knives. West-Cut was one of the trademarks he used when he began making sheath knives and it was introduced in the 1930's. The company name was simplified several times over the years until it emerged as Western Cutlery. Remember, many times the stampings on the tangs are trademarks and not the manufacturer's name. This is one of those cases. West-Cut and Westmark were to Western States Cutlery as Old Timer and Uncle Henry were to Schrade.

Serial Number: 71683159 , MARK (words only): WEST-CUT, Current Status: This registration was not renewed and is considered to be expired. Registration Date: 1956-02-28, LAST APPLICANT(S)/OWNER(S) OF RECORD - CAMILLUS CUTLERY COMPANY, First Use Date: 1954-07-13, First Use in Commerce Date: 1954-07-13,

2006-12-02 - Canceled Section 8 (10-year)/Expired Section 9

1995-11-08 - Second renewal 10 year

1995-09-25 - Section 9 filed/check record for Section 8

1976-02-28 - First renewal

Registrant: WESTERN STATES CUTLERY COMPANY Filing Dt: 03/09/1955 Reg. Dt: 02/28/1956
Assignor: WESTERN STATES CUTLERY COMPANY.
Assignee: WESTERN CUTLERY CO. Exec Dt: 12/29/1955

So according to the USPTO records, the "West-Cut" trademark is not as old as Western claimed in their publication. According to Mr. Levine, West-Cut was their budget brand. Perhaps that is why it has the standard tang, not the patented split tang.

In other words, heck if I know! :D
