Western Boulder NIB but not on tang?

Anyone know if this checks out? I know the Western Boulder tangs are obviously still dated to before the move from Boulder, but were some Boulder knives just marked Western USA? Any help much appreciated.

The WESTERN over USA tang stamp was used in the mid 1970s, just before they started stamping date coded letters, starting with A in 1977.
