I've been looking for a new axe to replace my fibreglass hand axe which was lost/stolen on a camp a few months ago.

I found an ebay listing for a wetterlings hatchet, saying it's similar to a gransfors brucks, so i investigated. He also said they are imported under the name HUSQVARNA. HUSQVARNA are a large timber tool manufacturer from chainsaws to mowers etc.

The axes are shown here: http://www.husqvarna.co.uk/node2177.asp?cid=200

I then found a UK site stocking the axes: http://www.worldofpower.co.uk/acatalog/Wood_cutting.html

These seem an excellent price compared to the normal prices of the wetterlings so i got myself a 35cm hatchet and a 66cm "all purpose" axe, will post when i have recieved them to let you know.

Husqvarna make exellent tools and used to make awesome dirt bikes so I would guess your axe would be pretty good as they specialize in chainsaws.
Please let use know what you think and show some pics?

I think I also have a Wetterling's hatchet in disguise. It has the SAW logo, and Sweden stamped on it, but it does not look like the patterns normally seen online. It also did not have the rough forge finish- it was sanded and painted.

Mine has a nice thin edge, but the bit is a little off center. Can't really complain though, since my wife brought it home for me from a yard sale for like $7.

S.I.R mailorder in Canada has what looks like my Wetterlings hatchet in their catalog (page 302 in the 2005/2006 catalogue). They don't give a brand name but they call it a Swedish Forged Hatchet. The price is 54.99 Canadian.
I bought my wetterlings hatchet on ebay from bensoutdoors for a much cheaper price, 29.99$ U.S plus 9.99 shipping. It took at little over 2 weeks to get from Michigan to me in atlantic Canada.

If you look on the wetterlings website they have a section of drop froged axes, I think yours might be one of those, as it has the SAW logo on it. $7 is a bit of alright eh.

Husqvarna is a chainsaw (and other mecanic tools) maker.
They take advantage of the relations they have with their clients and their distributors to sell chainsaw related goods (safety clothing, axes).
Since their core job is mecanic tools, everything else comes from partners and is branded Husqvarna. IMO it is better to have them ask to "specialist" rather then learning the trade by themselves. As long as suppliers are good and price is adequate, it is Ok to me.
Stihl (another chainsaw maker) does the same with fiskars axes (fiskars axes marked "stihl").
Since both Wetterling and Fiskars make good axes, I think it is quite good for them since it increase their visibility and distribution.

Kind of like when Beretta sells knives: bad when it is chinese crap, good when it is the seki-cut stuff.

As for the lower price, it is probably because it is the less expensive drop-forged stuff.

they may be drop forged, but the pictures on the sites show the hand forged style of head, compare it to the wetterlings drop forged section and there is a huge difference, ah well should be arriving in a few days so we shall see!
