Hey all.

Glad I found this section!!

I have carried a standard Endura with plain blade and lightweight black handles for the last 15-20 years. It’s a fantastic knife. So…I PREFER and like the BIGGER knives.

Since I have had this Endura for so long, I think it’s time for something new. I’ve thought about going with a flipper from some other brand, but I think I’ll stay with Spyderco. Just something about that look and feel.

I’d like to get some ideas and suggestions on what models I should be taking a look at and considering.
What LARGE Spyderco’s do you like and carry?

Suggestions and advice???

Thanks for your time and any help you care to give me.

What's your main uses, for your Endura? Have you always had the VG-10 steel?
How does the edge hold up, to your use?
Do you sharpen it? Sharpen it often?

I like the endura alot, it's a easy knife to use.
As far as large knives; that is a rough definition hard to define.
I enjoy the manix 2 and kapara if those are large ?

To put this in perspective a girl thought my Delica to be like a butcher knife.
I butchered nothing except a mango.

The 3 main large Spyderco folder lines currently prodcued include the Endura, Military and Police. There is a vast array of blade steel and scale material options offered in just these 3 lines that deserve consideration.

As for large individual folders currently made, the Native Chief, Yojumbo, Tropen, Manix2 XL, Shaman and Resilience also deserve attention.

In the past, the long discontinued Calypso, JD Smith, Renegade and Goddard lines offered a variety of large folder carry options.

Individually, the discontinued K2 and Tatanka push the limits of "large" -- the K2 being the more practical one to carry based on size/wt. There is also the discontinued pair of even larger Szabo folders (satin/black) but they were mainly intended as SD knives.

I own (or have owned) versions of all of the knives mentioned. I seldom carry any of them but when I do, it is most likely going to be a Gen 1 Endura, a Gen 3 Police, the Native Chief, Tropen or the Resilience. Oddly, I've never carried a Millie, even though I own 5 of them.

The only knives that I don't still own among those mentioned are the Tantanka and Yojumbo.

Sold the Tatanka because it was freakishly large and just didn't fit in my collection.

On the other hand, I sold the Yojumbo because I felt that it was too large and unwieldy to use as a SD weapon and based on my opinion that the Yojimbo2 is a better implementation of Michael Yanich's design and, for that reason, the better knife to own/carry.

If I could daily carry my Caribean salt I would (local restrictions) It's a good size for a large folder and I find that the sheepsfoot/semi-sheepsfoot makes for a much less imposing tool to bystanders. For reference, I did EDC a SOG Pentagon 2 for several years, and while it's cool to be able to cut a loaf of bread, or effectively part out a watermelon or squash, it was more aggressive in appearance than I needed it to be. Often that would be the impression it made, rather than how useful it was, whereas the Caribean doesn't get that attention at all. Might also be the bumble-bee grips.

K2 all day everyday workhorse
Nirvana for better dressed carry

I’m glad my Tatanka exists but I don’t carry it, it’s honestly a bit too much. Though with a couple of tweaks and upgraded steel it could rule the world.

Love my Nirvana but it's strictly a "safe queen" because it's too nice and too expensive to carry IMO.

Nope, I paid to enjoy it so I’m gonna carry and use it. Admittedly I’m carrying it in situations where it will see predominantly light use.
I cut with every knife I own and shoot every firearm I own.

I started with the endura and next came the military. The native chief looks good but never owned one. Same for the manix xl. All large knives.

My opinion is if you never tried a paramilitary 2 you should. It’s medium in my opinion but it’s not small. 3.45 blade with a nice size handle.

Native Chief. It cuts circles around anything else in their catalog. The Millie would probably be my second choice, or maybe a K390 Police.

Love my police 4 in K390. It was sitting in my pocket when I read your post.

The Police 4 in K390 (the one with the scales, not the lightweight) seems to get universal praise from the YouTube experts. I guess it has to do with the design, the steel liners, the scale material (not sure if it's G10), and the K390. Do you happen to own the Lightweight Police 4 in K390 as well? I'd like to know how they compare.

Sorry if this is Off Topic.

My all-steel, blackout Police has been a faithful friend for more than 20+ years. Sure is heavy, though, so it's jeans only.

A little too much play in the blade these days, so it's about to go back to Spyderco for some well-earned R&R. Guess I'll just have to buy another Spydie as a stand-in--something not quite as big as the Police. Just a substantial EDC. Any suggestions anyone?
