Ok...real simple..I got a permanent match off of the PIF thread and I can't get it to light anymore. When I first got it, it would ignite after a few strikes, but now it won't. Am I doing something wrong?

Years ago I had one. If it is the same thing, Make sure it has fuel in it. Remove the match and dribble lighter fluid into the base till it runs out then shake the surplus fluid out. Make sure your wick is pulled out enough. The match is a tube with the knurled knob on the top then a flat piece of metal is pushed up inside the tube with the wick. You need fluid and enough wick to make it work. Haven't had one in years and would like another but haven't seen one and don't want to pay shipping. Neat set up. Hope I am right and this info helps. Regards.

As ususal - Loosearrow is right. Some can be very finicky. First - check fluid level. Next make sure the little fibers come down - like long hair over the ears - on that tip. Then when you strike it, make sure to position the striker at a nice 90-degreee angle to the flint. If I do those 3 things - I'm usually good to go. Good luck.

Also - you CAN completely burn that mop right off the striker. So light your tinder ASAP and extinguish it. I burnt one off completely and couldn't figure out how to replace the mop. So I pitched the whole thing. I'm sure some curious inventive lad here has replaced one, I guess we'll see who chimes in ...

Loosearrow, you can buy one for $1 with free S&H off of ebay. I just bought one from Japan last week. If this is a violation of posting rules, just scratch it.
