Except for tying shoes, I can thing of one other thing that shoe laces are good for - making lanyards. Especially those 48inch monsters!!

I have been told that shoe laces can be used for other things as well, but right now the uses can't seem to come to mind.

Give me a few ideas of shoes laces being used for emergency purposes.
How about tying up your hair? :D :D

shoe laces stink. especially those brown ones you get on your hiking boots sometimes. they wear out, and then one day they'll snap and you'll have to walk around with one shoe flopping around all day.

I almost always change my laces out to 550 paracord.

Yes, shoelaces can be used for lots of things, I often carry a large one (1.20 m or 2 m) in a pocket for tying things like packages, bags or whatever, I have also made fancy key fobs with them.

Still, as Midget mentions, paracord is much stronger, can be bought in much longer lengths and I believe even costs less per foot.

There are many alternatives, such as accesory cord from climbing shops
, polypropylene, macrame cord, etc., you can even braid your own.

when I was a kid I used to wrap my finger with it and watch it turn purple. lol it was dumb:D
