What did you rehang today?

Is it just me or does that boys axe look upside down ?

I like that smaller Betsy you put together.

i was thinking that too a few times, i think its just the angle of the photo. i did measure the eyes eventually bit smaller on the bottom, i've found a few of the cheap boy's axes i've hung to be hard to tell which is top on bottom.

Thanks my friend. This was a big part of the inspiration. The first time i saw this i thought it fugly. But there is a utility to it. If I don't wind up using the knob I can clip it shorter to something like a baseball bat-esque scroll end that would look more generally appealing.

Fmont....if I ever become proficient at carving my own...that knob end French favorite at 29" is one I hope to make for several heads.

Great work!

Thank you, sir! I appreciate the kind words, truly. I'll be excited to see your own interpretation. I really like exploring some of the older swell/grip types, and of course rolling your own is the only way to do it!

Rehung this Falls City boys axe today. After sanding and wire brushed the rust I had a NOS IXL Group handle that paired very nicely with it. Then I started working on sharpening and reprofiling the bit.

Happy Fathers Day!
Just finishing up this hang with a mask. Still playing with the design of my last one. Despite a couple rivet locations that I am less than thrilled with, it’ll get the job done and now I can put it on the rack safely.

I didn’t have a gun metal button stud to match the rivets but I’ll get that later.

Last year about this time I acquired this Kelly Registered True Temper connie and married it beautifully to this vintage handle. It came in at 4lbs and maybe around 31"-32"

So I subsequently cracked that poor handle last fall. I decided to rehang it the other day, finally, to this Hartwell GEM handle I rescued over winter with a Maine wedge loosely attached. The two were used for splitting as the handle strongly indicates. I will not be splitting with it, but will be taking it with me when cutting, limbing and bucking for firewood. I love this Kelly Registered Connie. It felt great before, but now...

I hope Bill Donavan does not mind my reusing of his handle. He had his name written in 3 different places on the handle:cool:

Thank you YJ I love them. Kelly has made some very fine axes, and the Registered is no exception.
When you ordered a Kelly Registered it came delivered in it's own crate, stuffed with straw etc...and its own certificate of authentication with the serial numbers.
...I hope to be adding to the Registered family here as well, soon i hope.

Some awesome looking axes Miller! Nicely done

First hang in a while. 5lb Collins rafting pattern. It'll be used for driving wedges when felling, as well as rescuing a hung saw/light limbing duty. Hung on a "House" handle. And yes, I do like a metal wedge sometimes.

Great workhorse axe!

I know what you mean about liking the metal wedges. Sometimes you just want hammer a wegde in hard and there's no substitute for a small steel felling wedge.

Isn't it an aluminum insert? Maybe I'm just misremembering it, but I recall Hardheads being an aluminum capped plastic wedge.
