What did you rehang today?

I found the Norlund Boy's Axe head that I bought a handle for 7 months ago at a going out of business sale. Got it on, has a bit of a gap at the front top of the eye. Thinking of filling it with epoxy. If I ever have to get it off, I can boil it for a few minutes. What do you think?

Were it my decision I'd just carefully shape a wooden wedge to the shape needed and drive that in instead. Can you load photos when you make your repair?

A kaiser blade

Someone was gonna toss it cause the handle had broken

So I snagged it and threw it in my truck tool box and finally got around to rehanging it today

Not sure I have any use for it
But I hate seeing tools thrown away when they can be restored

That is one, interesting axe. Alphanumeric stamp like Kelly axes used to have but obviously it is late Mann product. Post 1987 paper label True Temper?
Edit Original handle looks so good: too good to be made after 1987 (Maybe somebody rehandled it using NOS haft?) I know, I know too many questions.

In my opinion, def a TT. However, the handle is not original. The one in the before pic was cracked and dry, I put a NOS replacement on it.

Hung this Frankfurth cruiser last weekend.

Turned out just wonderful! What a looker! I love that you improved but just ever so subtle. Eye came back in quite nicely. And that light file looks amazing! Got her looking great brother!

Amazing, amazing job! Teach me. What was your process for adjusting the eye? Amazing job!!

Anyone seen this wood before? I've no idea what it is.

Im sure 7 years is plenty of time for this to no longer matter, but I believe the limb you used is off of a beech tree. Beech is a good wood for tool handles, chisels and the like, so I’m curious how it held up on an axe. I’m only on page 15, so I’ll keep reading.

great thread!!

Soft face hammer and the anvil.
I used a copper faced hammer on the Registered. Hitting at the etch was nerve racking but the copper left in the etch looked cool. Practice on other heads first, start slow.
I put the hammer down often between sessions of pounding just to take the pause and not accidentally go to far.
I also hammered out the pole shroom over at the True Temper stamp and filed, trying to maintain as much as possible and maintain the overall character that the axe came to me with.
The Aubuchon replacement handle is possibly more rare a find than the axe head.
I love this rig and setups similar...
A nice Connecticut on a short stick.

Thanks for the description, this level of modification is new to me. I have a few tweaked eyes that I live with, but would love to adjust if I could safely. And always interested in what's possible fixing a mushroomed poll to save as much stamp as possible (definitely thinking of my 3lb Rixford Kentucky). I was encouraged to here that you didn't use heat.

I don't have a soft faced hammer, but I have a hard one and lots of yoga ball rubber available. Would that be comparable?
