I used some of the dremel brand polishing rouge and it seems to be doing ok, just wondering what was favored. Chris

I am really kind of flying blind here I just worked some of the polishing compound into a piece of leather. Do yall use any special leather, I would like to get a heavy piece of saddle leather anybody know where to get some. Chris

Honestly I rarely load my strops with anything. However if I want a toothier edge (I know this sounds crazy) I have one strop that I use Baking soda on. Mix baking soda with a little water (Play-dough consistency) load one end of your leather stop up, and go at it. Chose a leather stop that will be used just for this task. The water can tend to make the leather a little stiff. But after awhile it softens right up.

I use a old belt cut in three sections. However I'm sure you can locate a good Saddle maker or leather shop near you. They would have what you are looking for.

I use Mother's Mag & Aluminum polish...works great; (O.K. on D2). I got a piece
of leather from Crazy Crow Trading Post for $20.00, a piece of planed maple 1 X 4 from Home Depot, and there ya go.

I need to get some of the "green stuff" I had some happich laying around and that works pretty well if you don't over polish.

I got a 2in by 3 foot piece of leather for $6 at a local cobler, and have an old belt I use as well.

Flitz polish that I got at ace hardware for about 5 bucks. That should last me a good 20 years.:D

I use white stuff that came in a bar and looks like soap. The same block has lasted years. Mac

Hand American. There site is down now. (I think)

I use the Black Diamond 1.8 micron to finish with and the 6 micron silicon carbide for the first few strops. I also use maple boards, one for each compound but I use the 3.5"x12" boards. You will amaze yourself with how sharp you can get your knives with this stuff.

I guess I'm behind times. Don't charge the leather (HD belt) at all. Still carrying W/D paper in 600grit.

I bought a lifetime supply of compound from Bark River Knife & Tool...two big bars- one green and one black. Less than 20 bucks, IIRC.

I mount my strops, (pieces of old leather belt) on a stiff wooden backer board to avoid any unwanted "dip" in my stroke. I have a "rough" strop loaded with #1 or #2 whichever is in the yellow capped tube. And my "finish" strop is loaded with #6 green compound in the red capped tube. I buy my compound at Tractor Supply, and even using it for actual buffing I doubt I will be buying any for a long while, it lasts a LOOooong time. Also, I use the rough side of the belt with my coarser compound, and the smooth side for the final polish compound. They sell it in #'s 1-6 and you can go with any combo you like.

Beckerhead. :D :D

Forgot to add: my strops are about 1 1/4" wide, and about 14" long.

I use 600 grit aluminum oxide (white) compound on an old belt clamped to my bench. Strop like the barbers use to. When I use the grinder, same compound loaded on a fine scotchbrite belt.

i use cardboard and peices of an old belt from a garage sale for the portable ones.

i use standard gray tripoli on one and standard red rouge on another, using the tripoli as an intermediate depending on what kind of edge i want.
