I'm not into "commemorative" knives but if that's your thing, go for it.
At $200 it's not outrageous but I've got & prefer the regular 119 for $125 less.![]()
the old version with dlc coating was a good deal back when it was around. the current one is a cerakote and I'm just not a fan of it on stainless.
not sure why y'all are calling that one a commemorative knife? that's just the Alaskan guide knives logo deal. all these knives have that logo on the blade. can only get these versions from cabelas/bass pro....I'm gonna call it a private label deal....
before the cabelas and bass pro merger. they each had one. one had s30v the other 154cm, if I remember right....
Yeah im not sure how i feel about the coating tbh, idk if they have rosewood as an option thoughLook on Buck site you can custom build a wood/brass 119 for less. No black blade though, but I'd rather normal blade anyhow.
what video? The cerakote Im neither here nor there on, one moment I like it, another I don't really.
Maybe they changed it now but the logo isn't visible on this one video of a dude showing it off.
the "rosewood" is just a colored dymondwood type product. layers of birch epoxied together and dyed a certain color. it isn't actual solid rosewood.Yeah im not sure how i feel about the coating tbh, idk if they have rosewood as an option though
One of my favorite steels when done by buck.Doubt it would cut any better than any other 119. FWIW, Buck's 420HC is very tough, easy to sharpen and will hold up fine through half a moose before needing a touch-up, speaking from personal experience.
why so y'all think this knife is a commemorative one? it's just a private label made by Buck for cabelas/bassproOne of my favorite steels when done by buck.
Commemorative pieces I've always avoided however
what video?
here's an old version alaskan guide vantage with the dlc coating and lots of fingerprints, next to a first version with the cerakote...
both have the Alaskan guide logo on them.

Woah. And the touchup is just a bit of stropping or just a few strokes on a stone?Doubt it would cut any better than any other 119. FWIW, Buck's 420HC is very tough, easy to sharpen and will hold up fine through half a moose before needing a touch-up, speaking from personal experience.
:/ man. well ig that's ok since its more durable as you said...still disappointingthe "rosewood" is just a colored dymondwood type product. layers of birch epoxied together and dyed a certain color. it isn't actual solid rosewood.
No more than plywood is micarta. Its just laminated wood with layers of colored veneer that has been impregnated with resin to make it more durable. So dymondwood is pretty much wood micarta? That's actually pretty cool thinking about it now.
I think he thinking of the dymondwood as layers of birch like micarta is layers of material.....and that wouldn't be wrong......No more than plywood is micarta. Its just laminated wood with layers of colored veneer that has been impregnated with resin to make it more durable.
that picture ya used is a just a stock older version photo. the alaskan guide 119s haven't had that insert in the handle for years. that's long gone other than a used one from someone. I assumed from the get go you are talking about buying a new one and just used an old stock picture ya found? did I get that wrong? you're trying to find that year of the 119 run with the medallion in the handle?
Oh I was talking about the logo on the handle. I hope that logo on the blade itself can come, would be pretty ugly with it.
