I think I may get one if I get some positive responses to this post.

Thanks,
Ross

I bought one in around 2008. It is a very well made knife and built for a very specific purpose. The 154CM is probably one of the better blades that I have made in that steel, as edge retention is good and it came very sharp out of the box. The handle material is grippy and durable, it's well balanced, and comes with a decent nylon sheath. The pommel is hard and flat and would make a good "hammer". I actually used it once to skin and cut up a big boar I shot, and it did reasonably well (i.e. didn't need to be resharpened at all during or after) despite having the completely wrong blade shape/size for the task. I have the single serration model with markings. The blade is very sharp on both sides. I like the knife a lot, but I have to admit, I don't have much use for it except to keep it next to my bed at night. Given the price, I would recommend you try to get your hands on one before you buy it. I think there are some reviews of them on you tube.

Hey Planetcat, thanks for the great review. I just ordered one of these knives. This will be my first Gerber in over twenty five years.

Congrats on the purchase. Post some pics when you get it. Hopefully they haven't changed at all in the last few years of production, since I got mine. I'll be curious to see what you think about it. I don't know too many people that have one.

Well the knife is in and I really like it. The handle is a little big for me but nothing I can’t work around. I bought the knife because of the oversized double guard, just had to see what that was all about. The knife is double edged, so a upper guard is good to have. The size of the guard is such that sticking can be done without thinking about your grip slipping.

I like the fact that the blade is 154CM, feels good to have great steel as the starting point. I find it interesting that the serrations on the top of the blade are different than those on the primary cutting edge. I haven’t used the knife yet so I can’t comment further on this unusual feature.

The blade is a good compromise between reach and carrying comfort, just that 1” or so less than the standard 7” blade lets the knife ride without poking me as I sit.

I made a IWB sheath for it and it carries without effort, a little bulky in the handle, but still usable IWB.

Overall, I like it.

I've got one of those and I really like it. Proof to me that the Gerber of old still exists (with lots of other products thrown in)

Very nice. I especially like the IWB sheath. Nice slim profile as compared to the bulky nylon sheath. I like to be able to put a folder or multi-tool in the accessory pouch on the nylon one though. Both designed for different purposes. Glad to see Gerber is still making these and that there is interest.
