USPS MO stands for:

United States Postal Service Money Order . You can purchase these at the Post office. It doesnt come from Western Union, and it doesnt come from your bank.

It comes from the Post Office:thumbup::D

Hope this helps anyone that doesnt know cause I have seen old and new alike make the mistake. I have even been guilty in the past. I would have to say that it would be proprer etiquette to get permission to send any other form of payment than that requested without checking with seller first.

Hopefully, this will help next time you see this abbreviation so that you dont look foolish and send something other than you were instructed.

Hey, this has nothing to do with any single person or necessarily anything recent. Its the masses:D

ANyone else have any tips?

way to keep everyone informed Trev. I never used the USPS MOs before joining here either -- actually I never even new they existed

I guess the next thing I have learned about is the ignore list.

If you can't/don't get along with someone. Ignore them. We are here to have a good time. Period. so if you must use it then its better than the alternative.

If you know of sellers with extreme prices. The ignore list can accomplish a multitude of things.....

It will keep you away from negativity and temptation. It will also help clean up the search function :)

Tips? Don't charge 5% for paypal.

I'm all for this one. Don't tack on an extra charge of 5%, 3.5%, 3%, or 1% for PayPal...just figure it in to the asking price.

A lot of good advice here. Another one, PLEASE don't send me Paypal w/o Paypal getting its fees. It isn't helping me out, as I'm expecting to pay them--they deserve it and it's figured in the price. It's just going to get me in trouble with Paypal. :)

Yep, I got one :)... Insured means exactly that...and that it is insured through the USPS. Not self insurance, home insurance, car insurance, but USPS PACKAGE insurance. AND...while we're on the subject ;)... DON'T SEND a KNIFE in a DOCUMENT MAILER!!!! Even if it is insured, the USPS will not pay a claim on improperly packaged items!!!
If you don't want to pay for insurance as a Seller, then don't offer it and be clear that you are not, so the Buyer(s) can decide if they want to pay to have it added. :)

Just sayin'! :D

Another thing... IIRC, PayPal purchases over $250 must have Signature Confirmation through the USPS, or its equivalent through other carriers. Failure to do this voids the Seller's Protection policies through PayPal.
(I haven't checked the TOS for a bit...if I'm wrong about this, please correct me! :))

And one last thing... Personal/Gift payment options through PP are NOT for using when paying for goods & services. If you use this option to pay for knives & such, you deserve the problems ya might get.

Priceless........;)

LOL:p:foot:

Let's keep this positive. I'm not pointing fingers...I've heard of this a few times in the past couple years and with more just one Seller. :)

Since this thread has been started, any good ideas on packaging knives for shipping and other good tips & tricks would be appreciated.

I thought ALL money orders were the same regardless of whether you get it from the post office or your bank......

and for all of us who sell knives here,,,,please remember to package your knives properly!! ive had quite a few packages arrive with tips or butts of the knives poking through or almost poking through the box..i had one bm arrive in a large flat rate box just rattling around inside with no wraping at all:eek:very dangerous, and doesnt look good to the customer..
i over wrap everything just to be sure and make my own blade covers out of usps boxes if i dont have the busse sleeve:thumbup:

You can get a money order pretty much anywhere, Safeway, 7-11, Walmart, Bank. They are not all created equal, it all depends on who is backing it. The USPS money order is the only one that everyone knows the funding / refunding policies for and who it is backed by. Which is why it is the preferred payment method by almost all sellers for mail-in payment types.

Grown people should be able to agree on anything, including weather to insure or not. It is however not a complete sale until the buyer receives his/her purchase in acceptable condition.
Personally I would never agree to "no insurance" as a buyer, and I would not agree to pay "extra" for it.
As a seller I would never ship without insuring so that if it gets lost, or damaged and is refused by the buyer, I am covered when PayPal takes the money back out of my account and returns it to the buyer who never signed for his/her purchase.
Bottom line, the seller should insure the package to cover his/her own a**, not protect the buyer.

You would think, wouldn't you.

I had a transaction with a seller (1 or 2 years ago) whom I specifically asked for, 1: Delivery Confirmation, 2: Insurance. He did neither, and his answer when I asked why the hell he didn't, was to say it was a waste of money, (for him I'm assuming). According to him, Delivery Confirmation tracking doesn't work so he doesn't use it, and he insures everything himself.

Needless to say I won't be going back to that well for water.......

Yep, paypal whether you like them or not provide a service. Pay for it or don't use it.

I speak from experience when I say it's frustrating when a buyer tries to skirt the paypal fee, than charges a 5% fee for the use of paypal in their sales. :thumbdn::rolleyes:
