I have a Estwing 26 inch axe and I'm thinking about getting another Estwing axe or hatchet in the future.

Which Estwing do you think is the best out of all of em?

My personal favorite is the Rigger's Axe. The hammer poll and nail puller notch are handy, and the straight bit is great for crafting stuff.

I like the Rigger's Axe, also the tomahawk and double bit hatchet by Estwing look pretty good, they had them in stock at Homo Depot when I picked up the 26 inch axe......for only 40 dollars the tomahawk and double bit hatchet seems worth it.

Pretty open-ended question. The answer is: whatever best suits you. Single hand operation vs two hand would be the very first thing to decide on.

Have you have Gransfors, Wetterlings, Council Tool, etc? I find the Estwing stuff to be (what's a polite word for terrible?) when it comes to effectiveness in use. Even the Gerber/Fiskars stuff is better. The Estwing heads are too light t oget a good hard strike, and for me too much vibration come back through the handle.

I have a Council Tool axe and hatchet.......haven't owned GB or Wetterlings yet.

One of the main reasons I bought one is that it's the only axe made in USA that's instantly available at local hardware stores, and it only cost 40 dollars. For that price it's worth it to me, I could abuse it and not worry about destroying my expensive axes. Plus they sell a USA made tomahawk that is also instantly available at the local hardware store. I don't even have to go online to order a USA made tomahawk. I know it isn't the best tomahawk of all time, but it definitely is worth 40 dollars.

I also have been contemplating on trying out a Fiskars soon, but I know for a fact that the steel used on Estwings is better than Fiskars.....I think the Fiskars also is a good option for a readily available decent axe that you could find at local hardware stores. Not the best axe just like Estwing is not the best. There are a lot of other axes out there that are much crappier than Estwing and Fiskars.

Bottom line is that after I purchased an Estwing, I didn't feel like I got ripped off, I know that I bought a tool that will last a very long time and I probably will never have to call their warranty department for a replacement.

I like my good Ol' Estwing Camp hatchet. For the reasons you've already stated above, its a great value and if you did lose it then it was only $40. I've got both the new tomahawks as well but I find the hatchet more useful for my purposes. Good luck in your search-

I'm leaning towards getting the 16 inch camp axe, the 14 inch hatchet and the tomahawk, but I definetly want to buy the tomahawk first.

The cool factor of the tomahawk is pretty high. For the tomahawk my recommendation would be to not get the black eagle model with the stacked leather grip unless it is for looks only. To me, the leather is too slick but worst of all is the fact that the leather handle version does not have a landyard hole where as the black or blue versions do have a landyard hole in the rubber grip and for me that makes a difference.

yeah I am getting the all black one because that's the one they have at my local hardware store, plus I think it looks better and it also has the same shock absorbing grip as their hammers.

Estwing is well built stuff. Their axe and hatchet blades are a bit thin for actual chopping use. The thin cheeks stick when you plant them deeply into wood. But they're darn near indestructible and they're US made. I have used their hammers and pry bars for years and always been impressed by the quality. I wouldn't discredit anyone for buying an Estwing product. If selling tomahawks keep them making tools in America then I'm all for it. I hope each and every one of buys one.

All that aside, if I were to recommend an Estwing hatchet it would be either the riggers hatchet or the E24A camp hatchet.

One way to look at look at manufacturing incentives! But I view hawks as toys no matter where they're made.

I've had a leather washer handle hatchet and I like it very much for light duty and a blue handle 26'er for years. Pretty bomb proof tools. No they aren't gb's. For limbing and light duty they work great. Not all that great for splitting but I don't think they were designed for that. The 26 is a little on the light side and can glance. Depends on what tasks you want to do. Mine have proved themselves dependable.

I do, too. With the exception of a few first responders who use certain well built models as breaching tools.

But hey, they can be fun toys. I don't own one but but I enjoy throwing them at my buddy's place. And I have a lot of toys that cost more than a 'hawk. If someone has fun with hawk then that's great.
