In my research I looks much like the NCO Aluminum hilt on this site: https://www.japaneseswordindex.com/military.htm

But this sword actually has a wrap. Also, it was purchased with another Kris Mindanio knife. Both the katana's scabbard and this other knife were wrapped the same.

In regard to the Katana, what do I really have here? Really an officers word? Has it been modified (e.g. the handle wrap, the scabbard wrap)?

Thanks.

The tsuka or handle looks like a typical type 98 Gunto as does the blade from what I can see (more later). The scabbard or saya, ???. The cord wrap is not original and without removing it I can tell you nothing about it.

Back to the blade, it is most likely a non-traditionally forged war time blade. HOWEVER, that is based on one poor photograph. That opinion could change if provided with more and better photos.

You need to remove the handle (tsuka) and provide photos of the Nakago (Tang) and close ups of any markings which may be on it. Additionally, close ups of the kissaki (Tip) and the blade.

*Please note, the photos need to be cropped, close ups, in focus and correctly oriented. Posting fuzzy, out of focus photos are a waste of your time and ours.

Crop your photos, this will result in a larger photo of the sword and background is unnecessary.

Orient your photos correctly with the tip up, tang down.

Here are some tips which may help: http://yakiba.com/Article_PhotoTips.htm

I have some more photos. Only two of them, and only slightly helpful, but now we have the tang visible with the makers mark. Any idea who the maker is, or what time period? Not sure if this blade was made for a war effor, or if it was a family blade and ended up in an officer's sword.

Thanks for any info you might have.
