Yes, those small pliers really are useful.

I use those small pliers way more often than the Victorinox magnifying lens, the wood saw, the metal file, the corkscrew, the tiny jeweler's screwdriver, the can opener, the bottle opener, the hook, the awl, the tweezers, or the Phillip's screwdriver.

If you're not totally sold on a pliers based multi-tool, and you've never used a SAK with pliers...I recommend you give one a try.
It might change your favorite.

Have a merry Christmas,

Excluding the size difference, they perform the same.
Both are very precise and effective.

I don't own a Vic SAK that has a pliers. Been using the little Leatherman Ps4 Squirt and the pliers are the main tool I use. Did get a SOG PowerPint and impressed with it so far.

Veeerrry slowly, over the past 5 or 6 years now, I've been using a Leatherman Squirt teamed up with a basic small SAK like an executive or waiter. Much to my surprise, I've been a converted squirt user but its a little limited by the small blade. Can't cut a sandwich in half. A 74mm SAK or a basic 84mm like a bantam or even a Victorinox florist knife works well. I've gone for whole weeks at a time with a squirt and a florist knife as my EDC.

I've never tried the Vic pliers, as the only models they come on are a bit thick in layers. If they put them on something the size of a recruit, I could be interested though.

I tried some keychain sized plier tools and I don't think they're for me. They're a little small and weak to get good leverage with.

I'd like to see a Victorinox knife that has the main blade, cap lifter / screwdriver, and pliers. That'd be hard to beat, especially with an awl and phillips on the back side.
