Hello everybody... new guy here. I have been on the hunt for a fixed tactical knife. What does everyone think is the BEST fixed tactical/combat blade on the market and why?

That would be pretty subjective. Best at what? killing bad guys? Opening crates, breaching doors? What are you going to be using it for?

If I were deploying I would bring my Scrap Yard Regulator. But they are hard to find. I'd say get him an ESEE 5. They are both strong, thick knives that can be used hard and not fail. If you can wait a few days see if you can pick up a Regulator on the Exhange here under Busse/Swamp Rat/ Scrap Yard knives for sale. There are many variations and they are amazing knives. They are .333 thick and have an amazing grip. The regulator is a fantastic utility knife and im sure it would serve admirably if needed in a self defense scenario.

My vote has to be for the Winkler Belt knife.

I have carried it for almost a year now. It’s been whit me trough a lot, the blade is top quality, best fixed blade I have ever had.
The full tapered tang gives it great balance, 3/16" steel is 52-100 with a no-glare finish. It’s just the best combat knife I have carried. Im exited to see what other combat knives are mentioned.

IMHO, you'd be hard pressed to find a better knife for the money than an Ontario Knife Company Ranger Ready Deployment RD6. 1/4" thick, great point, finger choil, thumb jimping, full width full tang that extends past the handle, made of 5160 high carbon steel & black textured powder coated, made in America, for only $83 + shipping. Sheath is NOT, IMHO, combat ready. You WILL need a custom kydex sheath. A good custom sheath will be about the same as the knife cost.

Also, be advised, depending on the unit, & the people in charge of same, a knife like this may be useless to the soldier. They may not be allowed to carry something like this at all. Multi-tools are also popular. Talk to this person & ask them what they need & IF they will be allowed to carry it.

Here is a pic of my RD6---but it is a limited edition signature series & is not 1/4" thick. It is 3/8" thick-not a misprint.

Yep, seems silly, but its true.

A good folder would probably be appreciated too, but even then you can run into the same problem above.

 Unfortunately this is true. WTF-over ? This just ain't right, IMHO. We had rifles with live ammo & were trusted with that, but NOOOOO we could'nt have a blade like the one i posted pics of---??? :jerk it: ;) :D

My soldiers all carry a multi tool. Many buy the CRKT M-16 series. I gave my own son a SOG Trident when he deployed.

Something suitable for daily chores... Multitul would be handy... Not too heavy and may come used time to time, after all.
But of course, if something big best tactical deadly combat would make them happy - it is worth getting. The best knife is always the one which makes you want to use it all the time. Nothing to do with the steel, shape or weight - nothing rational about it at all!

There are so many good combat-type knives out there that it almost makes this thread title a trick question.

Wow. An hour and a half later I come back to a page of responses, pictures included. You guys are awesome. Thank you for all the great ideas and feedback. This will really help me make a decision. Please keep them coming, I really do appreciate it and I'm pretty interested to continue reading what everybody's favorites are.

Yeah man I would really recommend the Coldsteel oss in aus-8. The san mai would be better and the blackbear classic would be even better but for the price I am not sure the aus-8 oss can be beat.
