I'm quite fresh in terms on knife making and was wondering if any Canadian knife makers, particularly those living in British Columbia, can suggest good places to buy bulk sandpaper for hand sanding finishes and belts, online or in stores. Maybe also name some brands that are good too.
I have really only used m3 and gatorgrit aluminum oxide paper, and sanded wet with some Windex so any advice on sanding is much appreciated.

Cheers guys

BC Bushcraft, i hope you don't mind if i ask this same question for US customers? I've only ever used Home Depot sandpaper for hand sanding. I've had good luck w/combat abrasives for my belts, but I should probably be more mindful about the hand-sanding.

Not sure about Canada, but most everyone recommends rhino wet from super grit. Works good for me. I don't have anything other than HF to compare it to and the HF stuff is junk in comparison.

I get my sandpaper from them, my cubitrons from pops and the rest of my belts from trugrit.

Rhino wet from supergrit in the US. If rhino wet isn't available from a Canadian supplier then I'd bite the bullet and order it from supergrit.

If you can find Matador silicon carbide paper in Canada, that's pretty good stuff too.

Norton black ice is available from knifemaker.ca. It's not cheap, but it's cheaper than buying redline from the US. I like the coarser grits in black ice, but prefer the redline in the finer grits. Black ice is fine in the higher grits too, but small preference from me for the redline.

If you can find a store that carries it , perhaps Home Hardware, get a few sheets of SIA for metal work. I prefer the Rynowet from Supergrit and not at all pleased with the Norton or 3M stuff sold. Even with the high exchange rate the Rynowet comes it at a lower cost that those. It certainly works the best for me.

You don't like the black ice?

The sandpaper sold at HD is cheap wood sndpaper. What we use on steel is typically automotive paper.

Yes

Try auto parts stores,

but those that would supply a paint body shop, or machine shop

Travers Tools, KBC,

Kms tools has a good selection. The carry klingspor Its manufactured in europe i believe.

I think that the black ice is 1/2 as good or less than the Rynowet. A painter friend who does huge equipment that he uses what the shop buys but the Rynowet is still what he gets for his knife work, even though he can get the other stuff for a discount.Hey, maybe the 3M and Norton stuff does work better fot the paint shops.
