Their is no best as everyone likes something differnt, I like.....well I'll only list a few lol some off the top of my head.
1, spyderco endura ffg, one of the best skinners I've used
2,ontario rat 1
3,Izula
4,forschner 6in curved simi stiff boning knife
5,buck 119
6,opinel #8
7,svord peasant knife
8,mora #1
9,case trapper
10,case sod buster/sod buster jr.

A sharp knife makes a good skinner, and a knife that stays sharp makes a great skinner. What are you skinning? Personally I like the Onion Skinner.

I have used a Blackjack Trailguide for a long time on deer. It is a well designed fixed blade knife.

I have processed a lot of dead animals with this old Case XX changer

Yeah - Izula is a great choice. I like my Becker BK11 and BK14 for the same job. Looking to get my new BK11 micarta scales bloody.

Speaking of blood - yep, that's a little blood on my bandanna. Guess I ought to clean that. :D

A upswept blade makes the best dedicated skinner..I trapped for years so Ive done more than my share of skinning.

*Beef skinner
Heres a sharpfinger on the far right and a beef skinner next to it..

I'm pretty fond of the Buck 103 I think it has a very practical blade profile for such work.

This "Rigid" Caribou Skinner does a great job

as does the Spey blade on this Case Trapper

or this Spyderco Spur Skinner

As has been said above, pretty much anything with an upswept blade works great BUT any shaped blade can be used in a pinch.

I agree with most of the comments. The gentleman who showed the picture with the Sharpfinger is pretty much right. I have two Sharpfingers, one mine and one very much used one that belonged to my Dad and they do a great job.I have always found that the best knife for skinning is an up swept blade, but also one that is not to large. When it comes to a good game cleaning knife you don't want a big survival type knife, but rather one that is fairly small, comfortable in the hand and easy to control.

Nice fleshing tool and hog scraper. I have also used a Russell sheep skinner as a mountain man blade and general deer skinner

Thats mostly my old beaver put up equipment. That flesher is a necker 700. Its a real fleshing knife, espically for beaver.. I have a homemade caper that I used on my cased hides. Blades only about 2" long..

Here is a man who knows of what he speaks, and the tag line is sheer brilliance. I would hunt with you.
