What Is The Best Way To Colour Burlap For A Ghillie Suit?

I used a bucket of warm water and Rit dye that I bought at Zellers. It was pretty easy. I then hung the sheets on the clothesline to dry. The thing is, I never finished my suit. I ran out of burlap and never got around to getting more... I better look into it again.

I'll second the Ritz dye solution and you can do it in your washer. Just make sure you have Clorox or an off name cholorine bleach to clean the washer in a second washing cycle. Being that it is burlap and it is going to take 30 minutes according to the box of Ritz to do this I'd be tempted to go with the Permanent Press Cycle and you are really going to have to watch your time and reset it by hand. You want it to keep "washing".

Isn't the point of the suit to have a disruptive pattern ? Then it should not be all one color [colour]. Is there some way to spray two or more colors ? Or at least sew it with different colors ?

I guess a ghillie suit would be good for hunting, eh? Sort of a portable deer stand?

Otherwise, I'm not so sure how effective a ghillie suit could be made to blend into the shopping mall environment :D

I used the instructions Maximus posted. I used four colours, natural, light green, dark green, and a brown. For light and dark green I just mixed up the dye with a little bit of water and did the dark, then added more water and did the light green. Hope this helps.

Yes it's for hunting and the best cammoflage for bow hunters, turkey hunters, you are invisible in the woods with it. You can come to Gaston, SC and they'll let you grocery shop in one too-we see pretty much any and everything out in these parts. I knew I moved into a Deliverance movie when I moved out here 20 years ago. Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread. :p :D

My first thought was who needs a ghillie suit that isn't in sniper school (where presumably you learn without resort to BBS). Then I thought of mall ninjas/snipers. Then I decided maybe that was too sarcastic.

Sorry bout the hijack :)
