Does anyone know what the current USMC issue knife is? A guy is trying to sell me what he believes to be a kabar( black rubber handle) and a knife that , "is black, sharpened on the false edge, sells for around 175 on flea bay, and has a bayonet clip on the back".

I am wondering if the last knife is a camillus dagger type knife that is a bayonet.

Anyway just trying to see if i can identify the knives. I don't know what the current issued knives are. I thought that they are just issued a kabar but i really don't know anything for sure.

Any help is appreciated!

I believe this is the current issue bayonet, they also have access to other
knives check for nsn.same as the Army issued a bayonet depending on
job sometimes a Gerber or Leatherman.

I think the Jarheads use the OKCS made by ontario knife. They tried the M9, but, being marines, couldnt see the benefit of having 1 bayonet for all armed forces

See "More on the Black "Issue" Ka-bar", which was the written in 2004.

Thanks guys.

I think you are right in that it is the ontario bayonet. Although i don't see why someone would try to resell that for more than you could buy off flea bay or some other internet website. Thank you everyone for the info.

Quick side question though, If indeed you buy an issued knife off a soldier, would you be in possession of stolen gov. property? I mean they are issued to the troops but aren't the troops supposed to turn them back in at one point?

Yea the Marines are issued the Ontario bayonet. Most Marines will buy there own folders or what not to carry around though.

Technically, issued knives are property of the government, yes. But very few knives are actually issued - some units either buy on the government dime, or are issued tools which should be returned. Most in my experience buy their own. I have several family and friends who serve, none of them have been issued any kind of blade or bayonet. Last time a friend of mine saw a bayonet was Basic. As well, my brother was told in Navy Boot, that all knives he would need would be issued in the life raft. I promptly bought him a good folder.

Bayonets and Ka-bars (in the Marine Corps) are Armory items and are issued out just like the M-16/M-4/M-9/ACOGS, etc. They do not have a seriel number, but should be listed on the same issue card as your magizines and cleaning gear. We all got issued the new bayonet right before we left for Iraq (this was about Sept 2007 timeframe) and everyone had to take it. I saw very few being worn over there. Mine was stuffed in my seabags and locked in my wall locker most all the time.

yes they do .. i dont know what they have now but ..
at one time they issued a Buck 184 to the seals ..
word is they quit making them when the tooling wore out...

Mk3 dive knife, BUD/S trainees are getting KABARs and CS SRKs, some limited purchases for SEALs, EOD, and whoever else is high-speed enough.

184 was best used for an IBS anchor, something I think about 4 SEALs carried before they realized it wasn't really worth it, kind of like the Mk23Mod0.

I never knew if they issued a knife to every soldier. I just knew that about every soldier i ran into prefered to buy some gear from the states and take with him. I have never met a someone in the armed forces who thought they were adequately supplied with standard issue materials. All the people i ever talked to took their own knives and some of their own pouches.

I haven't looked at the navy side of things. Sounds like they get some neat blades.

My many-years-old Ka-Bar USMC 1217 remains my "go-to" knife for most purposes. Regardless of what the officially-sanctioned knife is at this particular moment, I think you'd be pretty hard-pressed to beat that. Sixty-six years of hard use in some of the worst conditions imaginable can't be argued with.
