What Is The "Ken Onion" System?

I am of course eluding to the "Torsion Bar" system on his (Ken Onions) Kershaw manufactured folders. Can someone shed some light on what this is exactly? I am aware of what a torsion bar is, but quite frankly I can find no online literature on what the device does or what application it is employed into when relating to this group of very popular folders. I can find all kinds of information on the Sebenza and the ever-so-cool Axis-Lock (my favorite knife of all time probably), but not on this one...

The tortion bar works knid of like a Cam in a Harley Davidson, that's where he got the idea. The cam is eliptical in shape, so placing a pivot in certain places makes the cam move almost by itself once started.

Basically, the tortion bar does the same thing, you start to push it, and through the magic of Physics, the 'cam' continues the motion on it's own. Not exactly an automatic, but as close as you can come, and possibly it could be viewed as an auto by some attourneys, although the DA on one of the Hawaiian islands, where Ken lives, says he dosen't think it is.

Hope this was helpful. You can get more info from Kershaw.

Great answer Sychotic!

Hopefully Ken (who is a member) will also add a few things.

Thank you for the answer, it was both technically informative and functional in explanation.
