What is up with the Raja II?

I try not to be a hater for haters sake, and as a certifiable knife nut I should be more understanding, after all I can dislike a design without taking to a forum to ask, but seriously what is up with the Rajah II?! Is this thing retarded or what? What do people even use these things for anyways? I am serious, I just don't get it. Help me understand why?! What do you use your Rajah II for?

It's a strong, well built folder with a very reliable lock. Consider it a folding camp knife. It may fit well a huge guy. As an average sized person, the Raja II was too big for me. Resold it.

Cold Steel has quite a few designs that I find absolutely preposterous. I think most people buy it for the fun factor of having a pocket sword.

Agreed guys. I like a lot of cold steel products, but this one has to go in the "fun" pile as opposed to the "practical" pile eh?

Exactly what I did. I have a CS TiLite VI. This thing has a 6" blade and 7" handle. It rides in my fannypack and I love showing it off, especially when someone ask to borrow a knife and I pull this one out, open it, and reach out to hand it to him and just get this look of total amazement. It is fun.

I have a rajah I... It has aluminum and g10 handles. I use it for all the same tasks I do my large swamprat fixed blade. It's a quarter inch thick steal, rock solid mega lockup, and big enough for the tasks of chopping and utility work. The fact it folds up does make it cool. The fact it's a khurki blade makes it quite menacing, but also is a great slicing, chopping and utility design. I see people wanting fixed blades this size all the time, but they seem less interested in folders this size. I think because until not long ago this would have been a cheap novelty knife. The rajah is the real deal. Great quality, usability and unique and fun design. You should get one too.

Is that a rajah in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

It's a strong folder so it could be used out in the woods. Also some people just think it's cool because of how out of the ordinary it is. Without beating around the bush about it though, I think it was designed to be a weapon and if you're someone who chooses to carry a knife as a self defence weapon then I'd imagine it would be a good choice for that, I mean it's certainly a more serious weapon than a lot of the small "tactical" folders around. I doubt many people have a utility use for such a knife though, at least not on an every day basis.

Agreed. If someone in a dark alley was trying to toss you some BS, hauling that turd out would probably change his attitude for the better real quick. On the other hand, anyone in a dark alley is probably gonna see that thing sticking 12 feet out of your pocket and just nod respectfully as you pass by.

Funny to see this thread after I just got back from a hike with my dog down to the strait. There's a big spruce along the river that is being smothered by ivory vines. Every couple years, I tuck my Raja II into my back pocket, hike to the beach and chop away the vines. Today just happened to be one of those days.

It's a job for a big chopper and normally I'd use a big fixed blade, but I don't like to carry a big knife near the beach because it scares the surfers and tourists. The Raja II is perfect because it tucks away out of sight, but when open, it's a powerful chopper.

So for me, it's a practical knife in any situation that calls for a large chopper in a place where a large fixed blade would make people uncomfortable. My dog pack is bad enough for some -- a 110-pound malamute that looks to most people like a wolf, my 90-pound, all black wolf hybrid with piercing yellow eyes and my 80-pound lab/border collie. They are all as friendly as can be, but they look dangerous to strangers who don't know dogs well. How much worse would it be if the owner was carrying a short sword?

Seriously, the Raja II isn't a perfect EDC, but there are jobs when it comes in handy. It's a well-built workhorse. I've chopped with it occasionally for years, and it's still solid with no blade play.

Looks like it rides pretty nice there in the bp

As tye eluded to, the kukri is a weapon design for disembowlment and beheading. It is ridiculous to ever imagine this, but to hold this Knife you realize it is totally possible. I am 6''5' and with the rajah at the lowest grip it's like a 5ft reach lol.... I only buy knives as tools and as was said it's a great tool. But if someone cared to carry this as self defense, it disappears into the pocket and scares the hell of people.
It's one of my three favorite knives I've owned out of a few dozen over the years.

I carry my rajah 2 when I can't carry a pistol. I've chopped thumb size branches with it so I'm.pretty sure I can take off a finger or two easily. Might even go halfway through a wrist with a single stroke.

I got a Rajah II years ago when they first came out. I wanted the Rajah I but it's considerably
more $$$. With solid steel liners, a very thick steel stop pin and tri-ad lock, this is one of
the most solid knives I've ever held. With a full flat grind, it slices very well, but is thick
enough that it is still very strong and has sufficient weight for light chopping. Add in the
long handle for leverage and it is VERY efficient. I took the pocket clip off mine and when
I carry it, it rides in my F-R pocket. I don't carry any knife for SD, but it would certainly be a
good choice. Especially if you practice "waving" it out a few times. Many grip options,
super ergonomic.
The only down-side I can find to it is legal. In north-east TN where I live there is a
4" blade limit. It's a very knife friendly area, and most LEO wouldn't say anything,
but better to err on the side of caution.

bleedingfinger- Has the blade on you Rajah 1 been modified any? it looks to have been reground and either convexed or zero grind, or did they all come like that?

Over half or the stuff cold steel makes its nothing more then novality crap , It's stupid that people actually carry a "knife" like this around cause they think they need it , no one needs anything this big that is a folding "knife"

No one can really say what someone else really needs, post #11 is someone who needs that type of folder, as far as Cold Steel making n-o-v-e-l-t-y crap, I disagree, they make a decent product , with one of if not the best locks in the business, (and no I'm not a fanboy) , but you need to give credit where credit is due.
