What is USPS doing?

I recently sent out a leatherman knife back to have some work done to it. They had a great turn around and had it sent out in less than a week, but now I find myself waiting almost 2 weeks for the carriers to get it to my house. DHL picked up the package from the warehouse and then tendered the package to the USPS..and USPS hasn't done anything with it since. I attempted to call them but couldn't find a way to talk to an actual person. I may just be panicking because I never had to wait 13 days for a package that was sent by the postal service.

Here are the details from DHL and the USPS, respectively:

10/12/2011 07:17 AM ET Hebron, KY TENDERED TO USPS

Shipping with anyone is done in a way that only makes sense to shipping companies. I once ordered a knife from Texas and had it go out to California, up Washington, over to Ohio, down to Georgia, up to NYC, down to Vineland NJ, up to Trenton NJ, then back down to me just south of Vineland. Total travel time 2 weeks 5 days.

Haha yeah i don't get it! I find it hard to believe that even "they" understand what's going on sometimes. I just pray my package wasn't lost.

You know how you couldn't get to talk to an actual person? Neither did your package. They are sorted by machines reading the label (bar code). If there is a problem or blot on the bar code, they get shunted aside until an actual human can get to them.

Also, since nothing travels alone, they may have these misreads in a gurney and the gurney can be pushed aside and no one notices it for a while.

Ahh...I see. Thanks for the response. Lucky me I guess!

Yah, I'd skip buying that weekly lottery ticket for a while.:D

I'm done for the year!!

I read somewhere on the website about a form you can fill out at a local post office that hopefully will get things rolling...this is getting pretty aggravating.

I also don't know what's up with DHL and our postal system up here in Canada.I was mailing a couple of parcels several months ago before there was a strike and I was leaving I found it odd that there was a DHL truck parked at the PO with a cart full of packages.

All these delivery companies are setting deal for pickup or delivery or sharing air cargo space. It saves carrying excess capacity in personnel and equipment.

Years ago when I was working for the US Postal Service, UPS went on strike. What a disaster. People brought all their parcels to us and we had no way to handle the overload. We sure weren't hiring extra people and buying trucks, when we knew the strike would be over soon. Overtime overtime overtime. :(

I sent one out several weeks ago that disappeared from the tracking system as soon as it left the facility I shipped it from. Tracking showed it as accepted for shipment, and nothing else.
It was sent Priority and should have been delivered in 3 days. I had the claim form and was preparing to submit the claim after 21 days, when it arrived out of the blue at the customer's door after 14 or 15 days.
The pucker factor was high.
I ship at least one item a week with USPS and this happens rarely but it is nerve-wracking with a package of any considerable value.

I bought a knife thru the forum in October, it was due to arrive Oct 17th but has not yet arrived. USPS Tracking shows it was last scanned in Philly on the 15th, after that it has disappeared. My local post office guys have contacted Philly on at least two occasions, but no sign of the package. I will have to check w/ my local Office again to see about the form bmilla35 mentions above.

Anybody have a suggestion on how long to let this go on for before I call it quits? (seller is aware of the issue)

I work in shipping and sometimes shit just gets lost. Somebody will scan a case set it aside and it won't ship... But it was scanned so it did ship in the comp. Then it gets actually shipped 2-10 days later and scanned out again. It sucks.

I believe the seller will have to make the claim.

It's called snail mail for a reason.

I've never had a problem with UPS or Fedex. USPS is often hassles. No wonder they're going bankrupt.

I know this thread is like 6 years old, however I noticed you were dealing with DHL so there is a chance you may still be waiting for your package ... . I Would bet the delay is/was on DHL's end.
To date..the fastest delivery I've ever received "normal delivery"
not including overnight delivery "I've never done an overnight delivery service too expensive for the like of my meager income" has been the United States Postal Service. A.K.A. U.S.P.S.
Not UPS
Not FED ES.
Not DHL.
I worked with them for one winter when I was laid off from my normal job & let me tell you , quality and punctuality is not their main concern.
Did you ever end up getting the knife?

Skip ahead 5 years, & this Power Ball jackpot is up to $1.4 Billion. Just imagine for a minute & think about the knives that you could buy with that kind of $$$!

On topic: It's been a long, long time, since I last used DHL. The founder of DHL, sure went out in style though!

Cape Cod can be behind the times a little bit. Heck, by the time we read this, Cape Cod maybe under water.
