What is your favourite machete?

Imacasa makes some nice working machetes. They are not fancy but they are solid designs that work well in a machete role.

I like the Colombian gavilan de Incolma machetes.
I bought I believe 3 of the inexpensive 5pc machete assortments from sportsmans guide, and in one received this particular bolo which I have not been able find available for sale anywhere.
It's an absolutely amazing machete,It sings like nobodies business ,and has tons of power in the cut while still being fairly light.


I definitely like a light machete and believe nobody can make a machete as well as they do in south America, a good machete is an inexpensive working tool that has everything where it counts and nothing fancy where it doesn't.

I also really like the orange Marbles machetes made by Imicasa, they were about the best machete around if you just needed one you could buy and go straight to work.
I don't know what the prices may be now but they were $14, for that $14 you got a machete that was already damn sharp and came with a decent sheath as well as a cheap but usable sharpening stone thrown in.

Over the years I’ve done some pretty nasty things to it and it hasn’t complained yet.

Been using a 12" Ontario fora a long time. Had to re-scale it.

I'm inherently biased, but my very own Baryonyx Machete is my personal favorite--after all, I designed it based on my own preferences! But barring that, Imacasa models of various sorts are my favorite. Which one I would select would depend on the nature of the work.

I have two favorites- a Bark River Golok, upswept blade, A2 steel, curly Koa burl handle, and a ONTARIO KNIFE CO. , 18", with original sheath, marked U.S. MARMAC, 1966 (we have a history together). For rough work I like a TRAMONTINA BRAZIL, 14"

I like the Cold Steel machetes.

I've been using a Cold Steel Parang for years now and it's a great tool. Not heavy, so it's great for swinging all day but it can handle some pretty big branches with a good edge.
I put some grip tape on the handle to accommodate my orangutan mitts though.
Even used it as a froe to make some trail bridge planks. Used a hammer to do it and it's still going strong.
It's in my truck right now or I'd grab a picture.

I'm still hoping to get one of those small extra wide panga machetes.

This was the 1st assortment I bought maybe 3-4 years ago, and the little orange handled Barrigon pattern on top is another one of my favorites.

Cold steel South African kukri price is good comes with a great factory grind descent steel and handle cuts like there is no tomorrow

My personal Barax machete in 1/8" 15N20 and Suretouch was my favorite until I bade it a tearful farewell today. I will make myself another, in one of the 3/16" AEB-L blanks I have in stock. Eventually.

My favorite is your kingfisher. It's a ton fun doing machete stuff with a defacto sword.

Not exactly a machete, but the El Chete, from TOPS. When I lived in Hawaii I used it a lot to clear and harvest in my back yard.

I have a machete I bought from Herter's in 1959-1960. It is stamped "Shefield Steel". I replaced the plastic grips a few years ago as one broke. I will be 77 in a couple weeks. It works! Dog
