What is your forever knife

Almost all of us have a substantial and often revolving collection of knives but I am curious as to that 1 knife that no matter what you always come back too, the one that's an extension of you. For me it's the KABAR USMC I bought when I was 18yo, with the money I saved from my first job. It's traveled the country with me, saved me from a mugging attempt, been camping, done yard and house chores, been thrown, hammered with it, beaten it, abused it, and is the one knife I will never be able to part with. Show me your forever knives and tell me the story of why it won't leave your side

I haven't been to forever so I couldn't tell you beyond speculation. I like my Resiliences, have purchased, modded and carried well over half a dozen of them by now, but they never seem to help me when it's muggy out.

It's my Carothers Performance Knives (CPK). They've replaced almost all other knives for me. Mainly the DEK1. It's a fantastic knife that can be pocket carried. It covers all my bases for any job a 4 inch blade can handle.

I absolutely love the SDFK though. If I could, I'd carry it everywhere. Sadly, a 7 inch blade is frowned upon in the city and where I work.

Oh good point. I'm so used to GKD being about folders, that's what I assumed. Mine is in fact a Prevail. My one fixed design that I have carried in multiple carbon and stainless steels with multiple handle configurations. I don't have one made right now, and I want one. I was just thinking earlier at the shop how whatever my next run of waterjet cut blanks will be, I have to include some nice thin Prevails in it.

The one that I always have on me; the one that if I find myself out without it that makes me uneasy, is my Vic Waiter.
I always have one on me, along with a modern one-hand knife and most days my Dad's pearl Case peanut.
I also carry a fixed blade when camping etc, but the one, the constant companion, the put one in my casket knife, is my Vic Waiter.

You! I want to hear more about your Resiliences (Resiliencii?). It's the Spyderco that fits my hand best and it'd be swell to know what sort of mods you've done. I have the G10 variant and I'm thinking of grabbing a combo-edge S35VN for an unholy blade swap.

My forever knife ( knives )

A dependable folder that cuts well.

A decent fixed blade with a 5 inch blade that can tolerate hypothetical scenarios and food prep.

A multi tool that doesn’t break easily while doing things that shouldn’t be done with a multi tool.

A tomahawk or Bolo of Medium weight for Tomahawking or Bolo’ing stuff.

I don’t know if I could list just one

These happen to be in front of me..

I'm in the same boat. Others will be too, no doubt. Then, we're going to need a bigger boat. Not just for that, but also because Jaws is after us.

Currently my SHF (L) is in the #1 spot.

I regrind them, cut some of the spine hump of so it's straighter like a Military, cut the sharp corner off the thumb ramp so it's actually comfortable and not a hot spot, then crown it and the spine to dial comfort to 11. And for the past year and a half or so, since I learned how to do it, I also add serrations, but not SpyderEdge style that has two small and really hard to sharpen scallops for every moderate scallop, but all relatively large scallops with nice pointy teeth that can both puncture and slice.

Here is a Tenacious and two Resiliences in S35VN I modded. Old pic. The Resilitary has left the building, but I still have the other two.

But here are the knives I currently carry, one at home, and one in town and at the shop, along with a Millie, Millie 2, and PM2 I also modded.

Way more comfortable like this:

For me, it’s my 21 year old small CRK Sebenza for a folder. I carried it as a true EDC for over a decade. It also has been on every backcountry adventure I’ve been on since I got it. I still carry it in rotation.

For fixed it’s the Army KA-BAR I carried while serving in the infantry. I don’t use it anymore and will probably make some kind of display out of it.

The Manly Wasp.
I initially bought it for two reasons:
1. It was the most affordable folder with S90V blade.
2. It's a sub 3" two hand opening slipjoint, which makes it legal in most places that have knife restrictions (like UK or Germany).

I put it to hard work from day one.
Cutting tin cans, prying, drilling, driving screws. It has seen a fair bit of use.
I've owned it for about 10 years now and it kept creeping back into my pocket even though I do own much nicer knifes.

It's not my favorite knife. It's not my desert Island knife. It is a knife I'm not gonna sell, though.

The blade shape + full flat grind are honestly doing the heavy lifting for the Resi. I also love the ergonomics. Amazing design can surprisingly make up for a relatively basic steel choice.

Never had glaring issues with Spyderco’s 8Cr though.

It is now retired, replaced by a Carothers but it was the Cold Steel SRK I bought as a 14 year old in the late 1990s. I still have it.

As for folders, probably one of my 2 GB2s. And a Magnacut Sebenza that I carry for cleaner stuff.
