(Spoiler) Gerard Butler uses a knife at the end of the movie to kill Dexter. Does anyone know what knife that is?

This is the knife he uses. I thought it was a Becker or a Smith & Wesson so I had to search the internet for products by them. The blade is 8 inches.

Yeah, search around for peoples' opinions on Smith and Wesson knives. To include myself, it's not very good. They're somewhere just above completely useless crap :barf:

How hard can it be to get a good knife to use in a movie? I don't get it, just borrow one if you don't feel like spending the money. Would do so much more for the credibility. Maybe only knife enthusiasts really care about things like that, but it seems like such a simple thing to do. Just get some background info before you get your props.

Usually the general public doesn't notice or give too much of a shit about knives in movies. As long as they look tacti-cool it's fine. That movie is geared towards 12-30 year old males.

I know the knife is a POS, but do I think non- knife people in that age range will think that style of knife is cool? Absolutely. They probably got the thing for ten bucks too. It has the look they were going for, so why not?

Loveless....Randall....Smith and Wesson....kitchen knife. It's just a KNIFE to most people. Seems like the more holes and angles the better. Can't get mad about it really.

The steel is 440C and the handle is G-10. I agree that it's crap and was only used because someone on set who has no knowledge about knives thought it looked cool.

They do make a 6 inch one with the top of the blade serrated in that groove you see; which would make it a little more useful.

I don't know about that perticular knife, but I've got a S+W kukri and it's been, without a doubt, the best bang for the buck knife I've ever had.
I believe the model is called the Bush-hog. Pretty sure it's 440c. It holds a good edge, and sharpens to a razor. Handle is still as good as new after a few years use.

Wish S&W blades had the Q as their guns...

Smith & Wesson doesn't make knives. They sold their logo years ago to a company that contracts out knife manufacturing to different factories, which means there is no overall quality. One S&W knife model being good has no bearing on another. Each model is on its own for design, materials, and fit & finish. This model's design is heavily influenced by Extrema Ratio, for example.

The only gun company I can think of that exercises any control over knives with its logo is Beretta.
They list them in their catalog and have had some very nice offerings designed by Bill Harsey.
