What knife would you like to see next from CPK?

what we really need for the coming solar minimum is a 3.75 inch D3V bushcrafter zero grind scandi, an OSS style thumb knife, and a boar spear.

My understanding, is that most all of the CPK models are not integral. The dagger, as Bob described, is. If the blade/ricasso, continue, at the same thickness into the handle, to which scales are applied, the design is not integral. If metal bolsters are soldered, epoxied, and or pinned on, the design is still not integral.

If the bolsters, are forged or machined in, maintaining one continuous piece of steel, tip to butt, that would be my understanding of an integral design. Bolsters that are force welded on, basically make it one continuous piece of steel, so I’d say, as Bob did, that that is a forge welded bolster design - and probably should be called so when describing the knife.

As with the CPK dagger, the added handle material is attached behind, and flush with the bolster. That is characteristic of an integral design, and what I imagine when Nathan speaks of an integral Shiv.... whether it has an integral pommel or not.

I’m a great and convincing liar when I don’t know what I’m talking about (and hopefully it doesn’t happen too often). If my understanding here needs tweaking, Please do so. Mike

Nice, so what I am hearing is none of you fuggers know, and neither does this fugger!

So Nathan, what is an integral Shiv and how does it differ form the original aside from the ten inch length?

I have an idea there's perhaps some mystery we are not supposed to figure out, at least not until such time as Nathan decides to accede to your inquiry.

An integral Shiv has been on my whiteboard for a couple years. There's not one in process at the moment but its day will eventually come.

To answer the question about what is an integral:

This is a dagger:

It has a blade, fully developed guard and weighted pommel and complex tang fully formed from a single piece of uninterrupted steel rather than assembled from various pieces.

And is incredibly incredible!!!

I’d like to see a “survival” knife. Something between a FK and a HDFK with a saw back and 90 degree spine for throwing sparks off of a ferro rod.

Regarding your interest in EDC2: there will be a revised EDC named EDC3 offered in a few weeks, just in case you can not manage to buy/trade one as you have posted in WTB/S/T thread.

Just giving you a heads up to subscribe to Nathan's Next Sale thread. I didn't want to clog up the thread you had posted in so hope that you will see this post for your buying direct options. The revised EDC(3) will have a swedge though, I think!

Thanks Casinostocks! I love the EDC1 so I was hoping to give the EDC2 a try. I'm sure the EDC3 will be needed as well, if only just for the sex appeal of the swedge!!!

What I really want is a fixed blade in delta3V with blade profile of a Spyderco Military and handle of a FK. The military is my most carried knife, by far - the blade has a much narrow tip than anything else from CPK, which is one of the things I really find useful in a chore / utility knife. It has 4mm blade stock but full flat grind to a good slicing edge and a distal taper for good penetration/digging in point without too much belly that interferes with point work. I have one in cpm cruwear, which is great and provides pretty good strength, edge durability, and easy sharpening, but I want a fixed blade version, 4-5" blade. No complaints about the folder - it is a great folder. But also has the same issues as any folder with opening / closing in winter when hands have heavy gloves or mittens. Everytime there is a thread on the spyderco forums about fixed blade versions of folders, I write this note, but no luck so far.
I think CPK would do a great model of this sort - with the usual top-notch build quality, delta3V is an excellent steel choice for somethink like this, and it would add something a little different to the lineup - bigger than the EDC line, but different style than the FK line. I'm sure Lorien could create a handle that would optimize the package too. And while I am fantasizing, I want mine with a terotuff handle ;)
ok, back to the regularly scheduled programming :)
