What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

I found this little guy in my grandfather's tool box after he past away. Well worn and used....I love it very much.

Cool knife! It will remain an invaluable memento of your grandfather. I found one similar today at a local knife store almost like new.

Is it an Imperial?

The seller of my knife noted to me that it wasn't that valuable as a collectible, but I find something admirable and rather appealing about an earnest hardworking knife that was made in the USA...

Yes, it is an Imperial. The main blade has been sharpened a lot so I can only make out "853DE". Any idea what that means and or what the other numbers were?

Hm, No friend, I have no idea. Maybe a model number or serial I guess. That Imperial I bought today was the first Imperial in my collection.

My only Barlow, an AG Russel War Eagle. I love it. The stag is very different from one side to the other, it's my knife with split personality LOL ... but I love it !

I'm glad you got your grandfathers knife, no knife can ever evoke the same feeling as one owned and used by your grandfather.

I have my grandfathers knife, but it is a schrade stockman. It seems that grandpa and I preferred the same kind of knife.
