I just got back a couple of my 110s I had sent in to Buck to have some work done on and am amazed at how bright the bolsters are after they buffed em up some. Have been carrying my Elk 112 everyday and was fine with the tarnish thinking it was just par for the course, but after seeing how well those 110s cleaned up think I'll try and keep all of them staying nice.

What products aside from elbow grease if any do ya'll use on the brass? not looking for mirror finish just to keep the tarnish at bay so they still look nice.

thanks for any help.

I use Never Dull-comes in a can like cotton wadding. Lots of guys on this forum use Brasso or Flitz.

ps, I stopped trying to keep bolsters shiny years ago-its like the mail...it never ends.

Simichrome Polish (comes in a tube) works for me. Also works great to clean the bugs fried onto chrome exhaust pipes (Harley-Davidson chrome polish is probably the same as Simichrome).

Hi Wings,

Like Fritz said above it's a job that never ends...LOL. The cream type cleaners like Brasso, Flitz, Never Dull are just to much hassle for me....wipe it on a cloth rub like hell on your knife, let it dry and wipe it off. Fritz said you can get the Never Dull on little balls so one step is removed. However, I found that Krazy Kloth as sold in your local supermarket cleans twice as fast it just wipes the tarnish off with very little effort.

That's my 2 cents for you on this topic. Every one has a cleaner that works for them. They all work...some are just a little easer than others.

Flitz metal polish is the best thing i've ever used on brass/stainless steel/aluminum ,cleans right up and ldeaves it shiny for a decent time too!@!!

Never Dull works really well, but does not protect in any way.

Flitz makes several different products, one, the metal polish will shine it up good, and their Natural wax protectant will keep the tarnish at bay for a good while.

I use Wright's Brass Polish but after a time and many hundreds of knives later you just have to get a buffer. Brass polish will not remove scratches and dings. FYI.

Actually JB It comes..I guess rolled is the best way to put it, in about a qt can and you just pull a piece out like pulling cotton candy off the straw and then sqrunch it into a ball and rub. Its about as easy as it can get but still a pain-stinks too. The wife hates it.

LOL...My wife hate the smell of gun cleaning solvent, I love it. If it stinks and it bothers your little lady you should try out the Krazy Kloth. It has an odor also. But, it smells like Crayola Crayons...not bad at all. Any job is a pain, However, a shinny knife is a sweet thing and worth the effort IMHO.

You guys are going to think I'm crazy, but I have a lot of very valuable, collectible knives (not so much the Bucks, but other stuff), and a discerning collector can always tell when polish has been used on brass. Even the good stuff is slightly abrasive.

My brass-polishing method? Rubbing the brass with my thumb. You can get a pretty high polish on it. The trick is to keep on it and not let them get too groady in the first place.

With 47 knives, it's definitely a lot of work, but when your knives are worth thousands of dollars each, it's the only way to go.

thanks for all the tips. not trying to make em shine "like new" just keep em nice looking after use. "borrowed" my a cleaning/polishing cloth my wife uses for jewelry and cleaned up real nice in about 2 minutes. so will just kepe doing that wipe down each evening same way i do with whichever handgun carried that day before putting away.

thanks again for all the ideas.

i use meguiars metal polish and a soft wheel on a dremel tool just be sure to cover the scales so the wheel does not hit them

Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish from the auto parts store. Johnsons wax from the grocery store........recommended by someone named Leroy......300Bucks
