When Victorinox first used a smaller version of that blade on one of their first locking models, the 'Hunter', it was designated as a gutting blade. I was sent one by Victorinox to review in 1991 or '92, and was very impressed by the gutting blade (and with the knife in general), and in my 3 page article on the knife, published in July '92, I suggested it would make a great basis for an 'Emergency Release Knife'. I passed on my thoughts to Victorinox, and Buck also took an interest in the idea, which I explored further in a subsequent article. Never heard anything back officially from Victorinox, but when they subsequently launched a Rescue Knife, they quoted more or less verbatim from part of my article.
