this is just for fun really, but what kind of wood would you use to make a simple spear?

in this part of u.s.[central tex.] i would opt for aged bois d'arc. older ranchers remark that bodark is the 100 year fence post. ---dennis

Hedge or Hickory something with a bit of weight to it. If I was attatching a spear point this wouldnt matter to me as much. With a metal head Id want it a bit lighter, with some flex. Willow maybe.

In these parts (the N.E.) I would use Hop-Hornbeam.

Locally known as "Ironwood" or "Musclewood", it's very tough and resiliant.

I use it in a variety of projects.

Ash is definitely the way to go. Hickory is supposed to be good too, but I haven't tried it on a spear.

I am thinking osage would not be bad either, if you could get your hands on it.
