I'm not into organized religion at all, but since Abraham started three of today's major religions (Judism, Islam, and Christianity) it might be interesting to knife people to know what his armament might have looked like. Of special interest might be the famous knife he was about to use to sacrifice his son, Jacob?? (I've read the Bible once, but it's been a while.

It's theorized that Abraham (Abramas) lived around 1250 BC. That would have been firmly during the Bronze Age, so his knives and swords would have been of bronze. His band would almost certainly had spears, axes, and Bows, as they were hearders, all Bronze.
Abraham came from the city of Ur in Mesopotamia. Ur was the largest city of its day, so quality weapons and tools would have been available. Abraham wasn't native to Ur however, His people originated in "That which is Upper Mesopotamia" probably modern-day Turkey. We know he was traditional, because when it came time for his son to marry, he sent him back to the homeland to aquire a proper bride (Sarah??).

Here are some Mesopotamian Bronze knives from tha Middle Bronze Age:

Here's an axe head from the same period and location:

I like to think this would be his choice. For the time, it would be a short sword, but to us it would be a long knife. Try to imagine it when it was new:

My first picture didn't take. Here are the Mesopotamian Daggers again. These would have been from the right time period:

I'm not trying to get anything started but he did not start Islam... That would be Muhammad. Some have speculated that he was Islamic but there is no historical evidence to note... He also did not start Judism (that was around before his time) and Christianity was not around until Jesus. But I see what you are saying. Interesting question too.

semantics aside, he was probably a herder or farmer by profession so i'd say a very simply designed utility knife made out of whatever was at hand or that he couldve bartered a goat or two for. functional and not embellished.

Logo, you're wrong. It goes in this order Judaism, Christianity, Islam. All three cite Abraham as their founder. Islam was founded by Mohammed in the 500's AD. Abraham's tribe migrated to Israel in 1250 BC.

Here's another common bronze Dagger from the area and period:

If we don't stick to discussion of the knives, this thread will be quickly closed.

This is pretty exciting. It's a bronze dagger unearthed in Soviet Georgia. This would have been from the time of the Middle Bronze age, and from the aproximate location of Abraham's homeland. The picture is too big, so I linked it. This would be "Best Guess"

Scroll down to see the dagger. This really is exciting. If Abraham was a traditionalist, he might very well have chosen a weapon of the type common to his original homeland.

More than likely the knife would be stone, like flint or obsidian.Exodus 4:25. Stone was far sharper than metal. His sword was possiblebronze.

You may be very right. Just because it was the Bronze Age doesn't mean that old-fashioned stone blades weren't in common use. Still Abraham wasn't poor. he was the leader of a large tribe. I would imagine his personal dagger would have been bronze. Just for show if nothing else.

Here's a cool dagger, 4000 years old, it was found in a tomb in Ur. The blade and scabbard are gold:

Depending on Abraham's wealth and weapons familiarity and local availability it may well have still been a chipped stone cutter of some sort tough 1250 BC is just at the cusp of the start of the change from bronze to iron weapons IIRC. Also I thought that I have read that archeologists have picked up evidence of very early Judism, or its immediate predecessor, having had a female goddess who was worshipped along with Yahweh.

Bronze was always a relatively expensive material as there were few sources for the tin that is a major percentage of the constituent metals of bronze. IIRC the major European sources were Britain and a source near the black sea.

Abraham was a wealthy and important man. He was the leader of a fairly large tribe. A knife in many ancient cultures was a status symbol. Only free men could carry them. They would be a powerful symbol. I understand that obsidian was still in common use during the Bronze age, it was cheap and sharp. I imagine however, that the personal dagger of a tribal leader would have been bronze, for show if nothing else.

I'm not trying to start anything either but, according to the Bible, the first son of Abraham wasn't Isaac but Ishmael, whom he had by his wife's (Sarai) slave, Agar. After
Isaac was born, but mother and child were cast out into the dessert, but they were saved by the archangel. From him, all the arabs are descended (according to the tradition).

And because you can't follow simple guidance this thread is closed.
