I have quite a collection started of scandi grind knives...most actually from Finland and Scandinavia itself. None of course are full tang. (Roselli, Lapin, Helle, Mora, Mora, and more Mora).

What are some really good scandi grind full tang bushcraft knives? It looks like Bark River has some but I have not yet slogged through their amazing catalog of knives...forest for the trees kinda thing.

My pocketbook won't handle customs but Bark River prices are at the top end of where I can go.

Thanks.

Do you mean through tang and pinned at the bottom or full tang with scales and bolts/pins holding them on? Are you looking for a tough user or something from a specific maker?

Now, without having answers to these questions, may I suggest the makers forums here or try making your own. A scandinavian grind blade meant as a tough user is fairly straight forward. The makers here should be able to turn one out for a reasonable price. Koster knives and Koyote knives come to mind.

Also, you can give it a try with a file, drill, hacksaw, and sandpaper. Bar stock and heat treating will set you back about $50, and it may take you a couple months, but it's doable in a day if you have that large a chunk of time. Minus the heat treating of course, if you send it out. Draw filing works great for this.

I would also recommend the Bladeforums custom makers. You might find them and their work easiest from WSS forum.

Get hold of Ivan Campos in Brazil (Google Ivan Campos knives). I have one of his Scandi-ground blades with an ivory/ebony handle mounted by Kris Klammer of Edmonton, Alberta. It's in very tough 1070 high carbon steel, beautifully ground, and way beyond scary sharp - you can find my review on this forum.

I am talking about a full tang with scales...like the ESEE (Rat) and most of the Bark Rivers.

I have seen some Ivan Campos...those are amazing.

+1 for the Enzo Trapper. You can get them as a kit or a complete knife from Brisa. They also come in either D2 or O1 steel and as a scandi or full flat grind.

check out Dan Koster on the Maker's Forum. I have one of his Bushcrafters that has a really nice scandi grind in 3V.

Your pocketbook CAN handle customs. Check out Koyote in the maker's forums, he asks very reasonable prices for awesome traditional scandi blades on full tangs with well worked traditional northwoods scales.

I've liked my EnZo trapper (O1) quite a bit, except the lousy sheath.

There we go. Thanks all. The Brisa EnZo trapper is just the kind of thing I was thinking of...and the price looks right up my alley. I will pursue that one and others suggested.

I would also recommend the Bladeforums custom makers. You might find them and their work easiest from WSS forum.

This is good info. I've bought a half dozen knives from custom makers here on the forum (don't tell my wife please). Not only can you find real quality, but in a good number of cases, a really decent price. Stomper (JK Knives) makes some Scandi grind knives in your price range for sure. I'm receiving my first knife from Mark Wohlwend that's Scandi ground for a great price. Koster has some extra Bushcrafters available from time to time, but they may be a bit over your budget.

Check their forums out in the Maker's section.

+2 for Koster & Koyote
Koster has a bare bones scandi grind PSK knife debuting at Blade - no frills kind of thing to keep costs down, so you can polish it if you want, put whatever scales on it you wants, etc...
Koyote has some awesome designs (like his full tang leuku) for very reasonable prices.

I am gonna bump this because I am interested in some more possible full-tang scandis.

Blind Horse Knives have a few check there site. Also do a google search I have seen some site have a scandi bushcrafter.

Also the liten bror by Bark River has a kind of scandi grind.

Koster and Fiddleback have some nice ones too.

Spyderco had one where the handles were cracking but it is still a nice knife. Someone may remember the name of it.

Good luck,

Rob

Lets do a +4 on Koster's knives. I just received a scandi Bushcrafter in 3V steel and I am amazed. It is everything I have ever looked for in a modern scandi knife. It didn't break the bank either -considering that it is basically a custom.

I have never handled the BHK Boat Tail Scandi, but it looks impressive as well.
