What's So Special About the Southard

I resisted for quite a while as it had nothing that interested at the time. Ti, flipper, shape, etc.. I won a very nice knife in a contest and after a lot of thought ended up trading it for a new Southard. Since then, I have sold/traded a lot of knives but the Southard remains. It eeks of quality and assurance. It ranks up there with my SnG CC and that's not easy.

I think the Southard is a superb knife. It is very friendly to EDC due to its slim profile when closed and its light weight. Fit and finish are awesome and can compete with midtechs. It has premium materials and the ball bearings in the pivot make it silky smooth. Flips like a dream and I like the ergos of the flipper, it has rounded contours with no jimping which allows you to flip this knife comfortably without tearing up your fingers. The OP may not like the aesthetics of the Southard and discussion regarding the matter is purely subjective, but I find the Southard visually appealing. I love the blade shape, while being an excellent slicer, it is also a nice design that differs from your more traditional blade shapes.

In love mine, well worth the $230 I paid for it. It kicked the PM2 out of my pocket, I carry and use it everyday on a variety of materials, mature that would probably qualify as abuse, still rock solid lockup. Takes up almost no space in my pocket, can speak highly enough about it.

Love the blade shape myself!
