Hi guys, I have been checking out *a certain site* for some interesting knives and ran across this one:

Masters of Defense CQD MK V fixed blade

I was searching the newly listeds since sometimes you can find a good buy it now deal that way and I saw this beauty. Bonus that the seller is close so maybe I can go check it out, but I'm not sure if it's my style or not. Are these any good? I would imagine the price will go up a bit, but that is a beastly looking knife. Reminds me of an M-4 or something. Masters of Defense seem to have a decent rep when I google them but it seems like they went out of business. Is this knife really rare or is that just marketing by the seller? Thanks for any info...

You made 2 mistakes.

1. You posted a live link here on BFC, which is a no-no; and

2. You brought exposure to a good knife being sold for real cheap, and now lots of people are aware of it. You'll now see the price rise steadily until the last few seconds when someone will snipe it right out from under you.

MOD made some killer knives. This model always seemed to me to be something of a fantasy item. They sold the company to a larger military gear company, who now produce most of the line at a lower price and quality.

But yes, CWL is right. I cannot allow a link to a non-BF paid dealer member.
And highlighting a good buy will only draw the competition to beat you out of it.

Oh man, sorry guys! I read the rules so long ago, I must have forgotten. My apologies! I'm not so worried about getting sniped, I guess I take the long view that something will come along eventually if I wait long enough. I would rather know if it's worth bidding on in the first place and then wait for another than to possibly buy something for more than it's worth that's not good gear. So this is actually a pretty good quality knife then? How rare is it? I guess if it's really quite rare I should be kicking myself.

Yes, Esav is right, MOD made some great knives. I seriously regret selling a few of those. I just wish someone would re-make a few of their designs, especially the smaller ones.

I like the Masters of Defense CQD, before the Blackhawk versions. This is a demolition machine. I have the manual and the auto. I also like the Masters of Defense CQD Mark II, the smaller version. Don't usually like small versions but the original is huge so the small is still OK for me, and way easier to pocket carry.

Oh yeah, those are sweet, just google image searched 'em. I wonder why they went out of business. Or did Blaxkhawk just buy them out to get the name?

Yes. They were well-made, sometimes compared with MicroTech, and the owners were friends. Lots of neat designs.

I can't remember what the models were.
Sorry.

What year did they get bought out? Does anyone know? It's a shame they didn't keep making them with the same quality, it sounds like they were really good stuff.
