No matter if it's your favorite because of it's sentimental value, or maybe for it's dollar value. Maybe it's because it has proven itself in all sorts of real life use, or maybe for it being the collectable that most makes you smile. Maybe it's your favorite for a bunch of other possible reasons... But what is your favorite traditional fixed blade knife that you own?

I personally had a few contenders in the running, but this is the one that won out in this contest. It's a Sheffield England made Bowie knife that the Egginton Group produces with one of their famous name brands that they own, (Wostenholm IXL). They seem to really be sticking to making them by using old school human hands craftsmanship 👍

This is the only one I have so far, so by default it’s my favorite. I’ve got a couple of BRKs pre-ordered so we’ll see in a couple months. This one will be hard to top though.

Is this a modern/current knife?
I love that handle shape

It’s an Albers Cutlery. Still some available on his website. Just received it yesterday, it feels great in the hand!

This still might be the most aesthetically beautiful knife I've ever owned. A Puma 6396 Bowie that I bought about 40 years ago (date-coded from 1981). Also might be my first BIG expenditure on a knife of any kind. When I saw it in the cutlery store at the mall, I drooled over it like Homer Simpson over a box of donuts - just HAD TO HAVE IT. I've never regretted that first big jump into spending $$$ on knives.

Just one? Sheesh, that's tough. For me anyways. 🤣

I'm having a difficult time picking between two. AB Meerkat with Warthog Tusk handles, or the Albers with Desert Ironwood handles I received this Thursday.

I guess the Albers will get carried & used more. The Meerkat is so nice I find myself not wanting to damage or lose the thing...

So, Albers it is.

I had this one custom made for me by Luong at BluntCut MetalWorks. The blade is CTS-XHP with Luong's proprietary heat-treatment to a very tough 65 HRc, with Asian satinwood burl handles. 9⅜" OAL, we envisioned a modern rendition of the Marbles Woodcraft trailing point skinner, and it really cuts and keeps on cutting!

My favorite factory fixed blade is this Schrade Walden #172UH. The handle fits my hand better than any knife I ever picked up.

Your I*XL knife is very nice indeed. I visited the Egginton Group site and read what they had to say about Wostenhlom history. They left out at least two chapters of the story. Between the original Wostenholm's and the Egginton revival, the Wostenholm brand was first purchased by Imperial Schrade around 1980. It was a somewhat failed experiment in that it never really made money for them so they sold the name to Jim Parker who had many (lower quality) Wostenholm I*XL knives made in Japan.

I also found an interesting silent-film made in 1954 that shows Master Cutler Billy Ibberson (another huge name in Sheffield cutlery) giving a tour of the Ibberson plant. Read the synopsis first and it will help you understand what's going on. I found the folding pruner-knife very interesting. "MADE IN SHEFFIELD"

This one's good too (more from Ibberson). HAND FORGING (THE BLADES FOR SPRING KNIVES)

My favorite fixed blade? While it's subject to change, I have to say my blued, gold-etched, "1 of 1", Schrade "Copenhagen" Bowie really stands out. I love what Baron Tech did with these blades. The mirror-polish and blueing really works for me.

That's a beautiful knife you have there!

👍😊👍

I can't do it. I might be able to get down to six or so, if I treated the big ones as a separate class.
Jarvenpaa Kauhavaleinen puukko, Brusletto tollekniv, Schrade Walden H-15, Buck 120 (non-flexible), Camillus/Western Mark I Navy (flat and saber), Western L-36, PAL RH-36, Catt 225 Q, Kabar Marine Hunter, Kabar old school hunter/skinner, OT 165, exotic Dixon...

If there could be only one, probably the H-15, but maybe the Dixon.

[Edited to change Mark II Navy to Mark I. Though the Mark II is very nice also. Always saber ground.]

I can understand you liking the Albers a lot , but since I do not have many Fixed Blades , I will have to go with one of my Arno Bernards in Wart Hog Tusk Ivory and I like the Squirrel the best . I carry none of them often and use none of them at all .
