When I say "real" sword, I mean something that has been handcrafted, and would hold up in a swordfight, something I could bang against a hard metal for hours without any bends or damage. I have heard of the katana's that were folded 1000 times, or something like that. Where would I find such swords? I know this is off topic for a knife forum, but I don't know where else to ask. I really don't want to spend $1000 dollars on a sword and get ripped off, I want the best. thanks! james

Rifleer,

As Armin said what you are looking for does not exsist. However, if you are looking for a world class sword with a "live" blade and have well over $1,000 to spend consider contacting the following knife makers.

In the US you should contact Don Polzien (he just completed a Katana for me and is now working on the Wakizashi for me), Michael Bell (makes them like the used to in Japan...blades start about $5,000 and go up).
Scott Slobodian is another. There is another maker in the Eastern Part of the US but his name escapes me right now (had the blade cut through the metal helmet).

In Japan, you can contact Kuzan Oda, or Yoshindo Yoshihara. Mr. Yoshihara is a National Living Treasure, consequently his blades are very sought after. Which translates into Big Money/Long wait.

All these makers produce an excellent using sword, along with presentation hardware to go with it.

On the commercial side, Bugei Trading has an extensive selection of commercially produced Katanas with live blades.

Rifleer, Im with you, the Katana is my favorite sword in the world.

I have a friend here in Wyoming, by the name of Brian Semich, also known as Crazy Magpie!
He can make you a Katana with thousands of layers, and here is the best part, Brian makes his work to be used. As a matter of fact he sword fights for different public scenes and goes around the country to demonstrate his Suit of Armour and fighting skills. Yes he makes his Suit of Armour also. All hammered and forged! I think you will find his prices very reasonable. Here is the phone number and address:

Good luck hope you find the sword of your dreams! Audra Draper

As with anything you want to purchase education of the object makes the wiser buy. I would suggest going to swordforum.com to learn more about swords and along the way you will discover who you would like to make the dream sword.
