Where/How do you store your knives?

Yes, there are a few older threads about storage, but I am curious as to how you store your knives and additional detail like how many roughly you have, boxed/unboxed, open/closed, any special oils used, etc.

I currently have about 25 knives and about 10 of them are just beaters from Smith & Wesson, Gerber and Chinese Kershaws/Bucks. Most of my cheap knives are thrown in drawers in my office and bedroom. I also keep Leatherman multitools in my bass gig bag, laptop case and in my truck. My “good knives” are just on my home office desk closed for easy access and to play with during conference calls.

I am considering a Pelican case or possibly just store knives I don’t carry daily in their original boxes.

What about you?

Also, any long term storage tips to keep the knives in good condition?

Thanks!

Others live in their original boxes in the safe.

Here's how I store my folders. Old metal cameras case with new foam. I like the Pelican idea. Very handy way to store your folders. My fixed blades are all over the place. Truck, backpacks, drawers etc.
The open slot is for the Boker Carvers Congress that I'm getting for Christmas:)

I think you need 3 more knives. ;)

I have 4-5 folding velcro pouches that hold 12 folders, and the pouches are behind one of the couch back cushions. My long brush swords/slimline machetes I slide behind the couch back cushion all in a row with the handles sticking out(same couch), makes it easy to grad and go out to work when you nee them. And my smaller fixed blades are behind the couch on the "bar" counter which has a bunch of my stuff piled on it.

My users of course are out and ready to go. My more expensive ones are locked in my safe and my crappers are tossed in a drawer.

I keep mine in a glass-topped jewelry display case. That way I get to admire them casually without taking them out, which I gotta say, means I get to admire them more often. For protection I just keep them lubricated, which means: Daiwa Reel Oil or NanoOil in the pivot, FrogLube or other vegetable oil on the blades, and Ballistol Universalöl everywhere else, especially between liners and scales.

I have a folding front desk thingy with cubby holes and shelves underneath that my grandmother got me as a little kid, and since I've had no reason to get rid of it for sentimental reasons I store my knives in it.
No picture but I've got about 40 users max and a box full of junk knives from my childhood.

I have a jewelry shelf inside one of my dresser drawers. So far it's been the perfect place to store my 7 folders.

I keep the ones I don't use or never used in their original boxes. These are stored in "Really Useful" (brand) storage boxes that come in various sizes. They come from Office Depot but imitation ones are available at Walmart at much lower cost. I keep fishing reels (they are strong and protect the reel) in them too as well as other things I want to save semi-organized. The really old stuff I seldom look at are stored in Rubber Maid tubs that are about the size of a moving box (book carton) and work well for stuff like this.

The knives I use regularly or fondle regularly are in plastic trays such as you might use for dividers in a kitchen drawer or similar purchased from the hardware store or home centers. But, I really like this above storage container with the three drawers X2. That would work well for me and be a bit nicer. Think I'll probably order one or two of these.

It holds 24 knives but you have to be careful when carrying it. I put a rectangular piece of foam when I close it to take with me. I have 3 and it is nice to see them all at a glance. You can put cheapos in one case and the good ones in another. They run about $17 with shipping. this is a very inexpensive way to organize and carry your knives. Spyderco also makes two rolls

Long term storage + oiling the blades. I use Mineral oil because it is food safe. If your putting them away in boxes then save those desiccants (Silica Gel) that come in the boxes and use them, they absorb moisture.

I've found that you can buy really nice briefcases for almost nothing. Nobody uses them any more. I like the aluminum or leather ones, but the Samsonite are good too. They hold a lot of knives and stack well.

But my primary storage is this map chest: it's pretty near perfect. 4'x4'x3' deep it holds a lot of knives. Trouble is it takes me a couple days just to sort out a drawer or two.

Everything else goes into a footlocker. Opening those is like Christmas all over again.

Craftsman 7 drawer top box. Has locking drawers. I lined the drawers with thin neoprene drawer liners.

Older beaters (some nice ones in there) are in a bank bag in a drawer. Newer ones (current rotation) are in a Zero Tolerance bag with pockets. This weeks rotation is probably on the top of my sock drawer, ready to slow me down in the morning, making a decision.
