Hi All,

I was wondering what online store you all think is the best for purchasing your camping gear and items that go into your survival kits etc....

Thanks!

I am a repeat customer at: Campmor, Sierra Trading Post, Sportsmans Guide, Forestry Suppliers, and gpsnow.com .

I'm a big Mountain Equipment Co-Op fan as their name-brand products are quite bit cheaper than the big names, but the product is on par, based on my experiences.

steepandcheap.com can sometimes have amazing deals on good equipment. they sell one item at a time at super bargain discount prices until its gone, then the next item is posted. i was addicted to it for a while, then forced myself to cut back. just ignore the trendy snowboarder gear and try again later.

I've heard of Mountain Equipment Co-Op and Campmor. I'll have to check out some of these others as well.

Check out REI's regular site and their outlet. You just missed it, but they do a super clearance twice a year (Feb and Aug). Stuff is usually around 60-80% off. I pick up some amazing deals every time.

EDCDepot.com has some neat stuff as well, and some good prices for a small operation. They have a 10% off coupon with code SEPT going right now.

Sierra Trading Post is always one of my favorites. They do sales on each category pretty regularly, so if you combine the sale with one of the 20% off coupons that they always have, you can get some amazing deals.

Campmor used to be pretty good, but I have not seen any great deals there in a while. If you can't find the stuff cheaper elsewhere, they are still a good place to shop. Good people and great customer service.

I have spent many thousands of dollars at steepandcheap.com. It is like a never-ending REI super clearance. It is especially great for technical clothing, which a lot of people underestimate the value of.

I have spent a lot of money at all the above stores. Maybe one of these days I'll put up a page on my site about all of the outdoor gear stores.

Check out ScoutStuff.org every now and then. That's where I've gotten my Hot Spark flint steels. Every now and then you can find something there offered at a screaming deal.

Otherwise, Mountain Gear (http://www.mountaingear.com/) has some good deals every now and then. REI and REI outlet are all-time favorites, as are Campmor, Sierra Trading Post, Cheaper Than Dirt, and The Sportsman's Guide.

Agreed - in fact on a price per price basis MEC tends to add in more high tech features in their own product line and their warrenty is on par with Busse. My wife took in her 300 wt fleece when the zipper broke after 5 years. They replaced it for free. I've bought from them - 3 gortex coats, gortex pants, 2 tents, camp stove, water filter, 4 sleeping bags, therma-rests, primloft jackets, tons of fleece among other things. Always been fully satisfied. They also have a strong environmental and conservation policies as well as fair trade policies to their buisness.

I forgot about MEC's very solid warrenty. True story. I purchased a pair of Koflach mountaineering boots from MEC a couple years ago and was unsure of the fit, but wanted to use them to work them in. So, I took them on a week-end mountainieering trip with the hopes of getting them broken in before using them for anything more serious, but the liners were just a bit too tight. I called MEC to order another set of liners one size up(the outer boot covered two sizes), but was told to just send the boots back and they would simply pro-rate them and knock a couple bucks off. I figured they'd give me something in the area of 70% for usig them. I was wrong. They only took off 5%! It cost me about $15 to try the boots for nearly three weeks and a full week-end of use. Not exactly bad service.
