Has anyone found a good online source to get a set of aftermarket replacement screws for your Buck folding knives?

Tried contacting warranty, their service is ordinarily top notch but right now they are slammed and I just got the automated email. They will probably get back eventually, but thought it might be handy to get a few backups not just one-off replacement screws. Wondered if anyone has a good online option.

BTW, specifically looking for screws for the large Buck Vantage knives, I have 3 of them and 2 need some replacements.

Perfect, what I was looking for. In the past I've used McMaster-Carr for high quality fasteners and online hardware. But even better is having a place that specializes in knives.

Related Q: What's the best way to take an EXISTING screw from your knife, and measure details you'll need to match specs on the replacement screws? In the past, seems like I was always ordering screws for other things like firearms or hardware where I knew or could find the spec on the thread pitch and related details. Here, I don't have that info. Unless there's a website that has equivalent to what you can get for firearms websites, where you select a specific firearm, then the website filters the information to specific hardware that fits. That's what I need here, something like where I can select "Buck Vanguard Large knife", and then it pre-populates the correct grip screw sizes.

Take it to hardware store and check what thread and diameter it is. But someone here mat know what size that one is.

Which screws are you looking... handle, blade pivot screw?

Your not going to find any exploded parts diagram to click on, like what's out there for firearms to buy parts.

The easiest way to determine what an unknown screw is, is to get one of these "screw checker" plate gauge:

Or you can go to a good hardware store (like ACE), that has a big array of hardware bins and check your screw against what they have. Not as difficult as it sounds... your screw will either have coarse (UNC) or fine (SAE) threads.

Start checking your screw by holding the threads against different thread pitch screws until you find one where the threads mesh perfectly, and that's the pitch.

Once you know the thread pitch, then you need to determine the screw size, do the same... compare.

I just did the above to determine that the screws for the handles on my Buck 279 Folding Alpha Hunter are #6-32 screws.

Good call for future use, after posting this I saw a couple online guides including McMaster-Carr I linked to, for measuring the screw info manually, but something like this looks even better.

ok, I haven't been up on Bucks of late.
So what is a large vanguard? Model number?

I lost screws out of a couple of clips and Buck sent new ones.

What I do is apply red locktite on any I have that have screws.
Specially if I deploy any for some reason.
Use blue if you see a need to deploy any at a later time.

Yup I have the 192

I thought there might be a new model i didn't know about.

Sorta like the 419 Kalinga..

Thanks

Probably a 345, the large one, or the 340 small Vantage, that I just received today with a stripped screw in the handle.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

Correct, I made a typo in the OP I had posted "Buck Vanguard" and I meant "Buck Vantage", the folder series. Updated the OP.

Well to update and tie off this thread: received two packs of screws (free of charge) from Buck service today. They generously threw in 3 pivot screws, but then also the screws for the scales, and the smaller ones for the clips.

Thanks to Buck for the service!

And seriously, it's not the highest priced knife in my collection, but my Buck Vantage 20cv, is maybe my favorite general-use folder ever to carry and use for a wide variety of tasks. Super thin and compact in the pocket, love the deep pocket carry clip design, it's a great slicer, great steel, comfortable to grip. The one minor drawback I've ever found is that to tighten the pivot sufficiently to keep them well centered, I nearly always have to tighten it to the point that the blade is always a little 'sticky' when using the flipper to open it. In general my Vantages almost never flip open as smoothly as I'd prefer. But not a big deal, and I can still flip them open putting a little extra 'wrist' into it.

I like the Vantage series so much that I have 3 of them: 420HC, S30v, 20Cv.

Because of the way the liner lock pressures the blade when closed I don't worry about blade centering in the Vantages. As the blade opens and the pressure releases from the liner lock the blade fully centers when open. With the Vantages I have found I enjoy the knife more concerned only with the smoothness of opening. Only have a Select which I love and an Avid I am falling in love with. Hopefully one of these times a Pro will be in stock when I order.

Still the only knife I keep the clip on.
