I'm about to buy my first AR.It will be in the $1200 range. There are a lot of choices in that price range. In my experience many companies offer great products when there is this level of competition.Usually through trial and error I've always ended up using products from the company with the best warranty and customer service.

This time I would like to start from the Warranty and CS standpoint.Who is top dog in the under $1200 range.

CMMG hands down but I am bias I lived next door to them when I lived in Missouri...lifetime warranty no BS

Thanks for the input.I just checked them out and any steel case or Wolf Ammo voids the warranty. This doesn't exactly inspire confidence.:thumbdn:

just finished building my first a.r, bravo company upper on a hughes precision lower with a dpms parts kit. BCM has a great product, and i've heard their warranty's good, haven't needed to use it.

I prefer BCM, but I have never used their CS and Warranty. They have always run strong when I use them.

Why would someone buy a 1,200-2,000 dollar gun then run crap ammo? Steel case wolf stuff is for russian guns you can still get US made ss109 or xm193 at a good price. One of the reasons that steel case ammo is not liked by Cmmg is that the case lacquor finish can melt in the chamber glueing the spent casing in place. The chambers of most AR's are very tight. Part of why they are far more accurate than Ak's and SKS's. So please if your going tp drop alot of coin on a AR please use good ammo

Also its not just CMMG alot of other makers dont like wolf or other steel case ammo. Read the fine print and call the maker to see if they cover it if thats what you plan to shoot. Also carry some brake parts cleaner and a good cleaning kit your going to need it!

Mr. Clark...I shoot a both a Rock River and Armalite.... my primary is the RR.... would suggest you look for a forged 7075 gun with milspec anodized finish, a NM style trigger (Garand design that limits the hammer movement after disconnect, bolt carrier that shrouds the firing pin and has good staking to the key, and intermediate gas length if your choose a carbine system, chromemoly barrel with chrome lined chamber and barrel... the milspec bolts should be magnetic particle inspected (magnaflux?)... the only mod to the bolt is addition of a "O" ring around the extractor spring.....anything with similar specifications should be in the ball park, I've never had any warranty problems or customer service... I shoot a lot, and I do shoot Wolff for local matches, but havent seen a lacquered case in years....If I wear out a barrel I'll replace it... cost difference between $190/1000 and $320/1000 lets me play more... the Wolf 55 shoots 5inches at 400m out of the RR... as crackerjax commented, you do need to clean the bolt with the Wolff

Most big companies stand behind their products. I use Bravo, spikes, RR, DPMS, and a few others, the only issue I have had is with a stupid ejection port door spring on my RRA 9mm. I called RRA and they wanted me to send in the entire rifle for warranty. Its their rules, I asked if it would void the warranty if I just did it myself, they said nope, but I would have to buy the part. So I bought a few spare parts and swapped it myself.

Off topic but I still need to send the slide of my PX4 into Trijicon to get one of the vials replaced since it went out.

Firearms break, so be it even with a warranty, I highly recommend atleast something like a bolt repair kit with extractor, extractor pin, extractor springs, and gas rings as part of a JIC kit.

Spot on advice. Buy a quality rifle from any of the big boys, but I would invest in some spare parts. AR's are really quite a simple design and easy to trouble shoot. About the only thing you'd need a warranty for is a major defect (cracked frame, upper, etc.)...chances are a quality company will have much better QC to minimize that from ever happening. Over twenty years and a dozen AR's, I've only had a broken extractor and a bolt-hold open broke. Both were very simple, less-than 5 minute fixes.

The problem with keeping spare parts on hand often leads to much bigger problems...

...it's like not using AR Birth-Control:D

I have to second the motion of not using crap ammo. The smell alone is enough to warrant not using wolf. If your smart enough to buy a quality rifle, use the same sense in picking ammo. Bravo Company, Spikes tactical, the big three (armalite, RR, and colt) all make great tools. Would you sharpen a Sebenza with a file? If you are sticking with Wolf no matter what, Buy/build an AK.... Better anyways IMHO. Ducking for cover now.

Thanks Rock, and yup, BRD affects most more than they care to think about. This photo is a few years old, so add 3 but still... they add up FAST.

Thanks everyone for the help. You folks have some nice AR's,at least I'm impressed.

I didn't mean to sound like all I was goint to shoot was cheap ammo.I might shoot some Wolf though, and I would like to think my gun would shoot it if I wanted too or had too.Maby I was a little too hard on CMMG for their ammo policy.I'm sure they make fine weapons. It just seemed to me though like an easy way out of a warranty.

I have a Rock River, a Bushmaster and a Stag. Honestly cannot tell any difference in quality....all, very good.

Not mentionede, but I like the Stag, made in america and they offer a dedicated lefty version as well.

Just wanted to point out that this isn't true...

I have owned armalite, bushmasters and spent a lot of time with a colts a1/2 and 3 models. None have ever let me down. I have seen alot of parts fail from weapons with very low round count that were built by major manufactures during the gun grab frenzy that occurred several years ago.
I currently have a bushmaster, and I have built two with one costing me several thousand. Bravo Company makes some outstanding products. Spikes Tactical once again outstanding products and their customer service is the best I have experienced. I had an issue with a part from a high end company i wont name that did not respond to my emails. I had emailed spikes about the problem bcause i was using there lower and the other company wasn't responding to my e-mails. The next day spikes sent me what I needed free despite me offering to pay for it. Spikes tactical is my first choice hands down, Bravo company would right up their. I have used bravo co parts and barrels and they are def top quality. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a bushy, colt, rra or armalite if they had a model I wanted and the price was right. Im also sure there are several other companies I am forgetting to mention that make-quality ar's I'd buy at the drop of a hat.
