Recently in some posts,I have seen the puma called a 110 knockoff. I had thought that I read somewhere, that Buck copied the Game warden or what ever it was called then, and that popularised the whole folding belt knife genre.

I like you have read that the puma was first in it's class then the buck came along. I think that Buck made it more affordable for a folding knife...but don't quote me on that.

I think the Buck 110 was first by about 4-5 years. The 110 came out in 1963, and I don't think the Puma Game Warden series came until the late 1960's.

The Gutttman Puma Collector's guide lists entries for the Game Warden in 1957 and 1958, but then nothing until 1969.

acourvil,
I do not doubt that BRL is right with his his information.

That Gutman Puma Collector's Guide that you are referring to should be used with care. Its a fact that at least several knife patterns listed were made by Puma PRIOR to that chart.
I am convinced that Gutman listed such entries of dates for those years while that patterns were imported and marketed in the US by GUTMAN.

The early entries were probably a different design, with the name being re-used later.
If so, did you ever run across any such different design PUMA WARDEN or did you or anybody run across any illustration of that design?

Agreed, the Guttman guide shows dates of import to the US, not necessarily dates of introduction by Puma. In addition to listing dates that are later than original production for some models, it omits some models entirely.

I have not, but I would be interested in seeing (and maybe collecting) them.
