Which knife for use with gloves?

Hey guys, winter is coming and I was wondering if any of you have a dedicated winter edc knife. What knife would be easiest to use with thick winter gloves on? Which steels would hold up well in the snow? I'm thinking the pm2, because it has the enlarged thumb hole and the compression lock seems like it would be easy to disengage with gloves. Thoughts?

PM2 was my first thought as well. The Spyderco thumbhole is by far the best choice for glove use. The Endura or Delica with VG10 are pretty corrosion resistant. Good choice for wet conditions, and the FRN is not thermally conductive so it's not going to freeze your hand if you're using it without gloves.

Agree with PM2 or Endura (possibly the waved might help with opening of the H1 if you want one that WILL NOT RUST), Also the manix 2 or XL depending on hand and glove size.
If you like BM grips and have relatively medium hands there is the sheepsfoot blade with an opening hole and you might be able to find (or custom order) one in N680, M4, or S30v. The standard 154cm might be okay but i doubt it in the snow.

for refference here's a chart regarding corrosion resistance

I have to wear rubber (type) gloves at work now and I've found an Opinel to be my best option. Svord peasants aren't too shabby either.

Anything with a wave or Spyderhole.
My preferred option is a small fixed blade, don't know if you can do that where you live.

The Spyderco Military was designed for use with gloves on. Might give that a look at as well.

For gloved use, thumb-hole sucks, imho. The best I've found is the Gerber Propel. I use it all the time with heavy gloves on, the newer models have less coarse G10 but still provide plenty of traction on gloves, and i can open & close one-handed whether it's de-assisted or not:

Skip to ~9:00 in this video for discussion of gloved use:

I like autos with gloves...benchmade afo, gerber 06....these two autos were made for military use and gloves in mind

The propel in the above post is a good choice, but I would opt for the auto version in that as well

I've found flippers work much better for me when wearing gloves. Some thumb studs work okay too. That's mostly experience from work gloves though. Winters here only last a few days, so I don't wear insulating gloves much. ;)

I don't like opening holes with gloves either, a nice big stud seems to catch better. I experimented with different knives working outdoors the last 4 summers and the hole wasn't as reliable for me. The knife I used with a hole was the full size bone collector. I settled on a small custom fixed blade.

:confused:Why hasn't anyone said a Manix 2????

I used to work stock in a freezer and the ergos of a manix while wearing gloves are unbelievable! The lock is easy to disengage no matter how thick your gloves are, and no matter which hand you're using.
Also, that spyder hole...

I think using anything else would leave something to be desired.
