Hello. I'm thinking a wave would be a nice feature to have on an EDC. Would those familiar with these please give recommendations for one; thank you.

Hello and welcome to the forums. What size knife do you like? Budget?

The Spyderco Delica and Endura are two great choices depending on what size blade you want. Linked from KC & Bladehq for easy reference.

I had a waved Endura for awhile. I just prefer a spydie hole or thumb stud.

There are parts you can add to a knife to make it "waved". I have no experience with those. Like the pic below ...

I’m not sure how many are still in production, but the Kershaw Emersons were a good way to check out a licensed version of the Wave for around $30-$40.

The Spyderco Matriarch and Lil Matriarch are good choices for a few $ more.

Edit: looks like I was off on the price of the Kershaw Emersons; more like $40-$60. That’s a little steep for 8Cr.

Best waved knives I've owned are the ZT0620 or 630, the Southern Grind Monkeys, and of course right from Ernie.
No particular order.
There are wave accessories to add to knives and some knives can be modified into waves, and some non-waved can be manipulated to emulate waves with practice.
For instance, oversized dual thumb studs, certain front flippers, large discs etc.
There are more that have circumnavigated the copyright that are wave-like, the list goes on and on.
But please...don't be one of those zip-tie people.

I've bought and sold and bought and sold and bought the waved Endura. It's just a sweet blade I haven't been able to get away from. Definitely a decent choice. The wave works perfectly, and it's pocketable.

I carry a waved Para 2 a lot. It's more noticeable in the pocket, I think because of the width of the blade plus handle difference from the Endura. The lock makes it a bit more fidget-friendly, if that's your thing.

The last waved knife I have is the Kershaw/Emerson CQC 4K XL. The original steel version can be had pretty cheap, certainly less than the other two (that's what I have). It is way heavier than the others due to the steel frame lock. It's a nice knife for the price, and the wave works fine but maybe not as fool-proof as Spyderco's style of wave. I carry it sometimes when I want something heavy. It's a fun cheaper option.

I've owned a lot of waved knives over the years, from several different manufacturers, and I've found that my favorites are the ones I've waved myself.

Kershaw emersons, like the 6K, go on sale pretty frequently...just gotta know where to look. The D2 one I've seen many times for 35$.

Not the smoothest, kind of heavy, but the fit and finish are quite good and the wave feature works as advertised. Also really beefy and has very solid lockup.

My other two waves are both karambit, the fox 479 and fox blackbird. Both are slow deployers unless "waved", in which case they snap out nice and fast and attract local law enforcement/sheeples.

Cheers!

I have never tried zip ties or other accoutrements in lieu of a real cutout on the blade. The zt 620 and 630 are bulky and heavy and I don’t like them, I have had a few and they just aren’t as cool as it seems like they should be, framelock Emerson and all. Real Emersons, the older ones from around 2013 and older are the best, aside from mods. This is my favorite Daved knife, WValtakis WValtakis hooked me up with the mod on this pm2 Tanto.

I think that's the key right there. Pick the knife you most want to carry, whether it's waved or not. That way you get a knife you liked already, and didn't settle for something just because it's waved. And if the one you like is not already waved, then making it so is a snap, whether you do it yourself, or find someone here to do it for you.

I picked up a wave Spyderco Endura thinking it may not work that great being a lockback. Surprised me that it is one of the best waving knives I've had.
ZT 620 and 630 wave really well for me. Some Emerson knives wave really well for me. Surprisingly the Commander doesn't wave that well for me. I think it is the angle of the spine that causes me problems.

True, but only if you have the skills for DIY mods and /or the extra funds to hire it done .

Some types of folders are fairly easy to mod very inexpensively, with no special tools or talents ...others , not so much . ;)
