Which sharpening puck do you recommend for sharpening an axe?
Lansky (120/280 grit) Marbles MR291 (don't know the grits; "Coarse" and "Medium" or "Fine" are meaningless.
I did send a email to Marbles asking what the grits are)
Smiths Tri-6 Tri-Hone ("Fine" and "Medium" Arkansas stones plus a synthetic "coarse" stone) and forget a puck?
Would a Smith's draw through Sharpener (40• inclusive without a micro-bevel) be acceptable? (It can put a 46• inclusive micro-bevel on, if needed.)

For an axe, do I really need a black or translucent super ultra fine Arkansas stone? (I ain't all that sure I need one or both for a knife.)

I have a double cut mill file, (I think its a mill file. It might be a double cut bastard file) but no work bench, clamps, or vise.

A file and Smiths Diamond combination sharpener would be where I would start.

I use a marbles puck for honing after file sharpening. Then I use my Frost River puck (Arctic fox, same thing) to really fine tune it. The marbles wears fast. It does the job though, and cheap. The Smith's tri-hone is a good pocket knife sharpener for some blade steel, not so much for some of the newer high end steels. I personally wouldn't use it for an axe unless I had to, as I like to take the stone (puck) to the axe for honing, not the axe to the stone as you would a pocket knife. As far as a work bench goes, half the time I just use 2 cheap harbor freight clamps and clamp the axe to the tailgate of my truck when filing. Hold the axe in your hand/arm for honing with a puck.
