I asked Chicago Cutlery what steel is used to make their Insignia2 line of knives. They replied "our Chicago Cutlery is made of a high-carbon stainless steel which allows the blades to be flexible so they don't break." Does anyone know more specifics?

I asked Chicago, too, and got a similar answer. Experience and comparison with other knives suggest a performance similar to an alloy between 420 and 440 stainless hardened to about Rc53. That soft edge folds over awfully easily, but a smooth steel or a power strop will straighten it up just as easily. Stain and wear resistance aren't bad.

LedSled--- thanks for the info. I guess Chicago Cutlery has classified this TOP SECRET or they just don't know.:D:D:D I was sure one of the knowledgeable folks around here would know.

I thought I read somewhere that it was 1095 but you never know about the information you are getting. It sure is a workable steel. Takes a nice edge and holds for awhile. Patina is nice on it. Have thought about trying to regrind them into other knives. Loosearrow
